Lecturer in Media Studies

Permanent, part-time position (29.60 hours 0.8 fte)

Salary: £23,431 - £33,252 per annum pro rata (actual £18,744 - £26,601)

In November 2016 Newcastle-under-Lyme College merged with Stafford College to form the Newcastle & Stafford Colleges Group. The group is currently home to a population of over 5,000 full-time students and around 620 students on higher education programmes. We have over 2,000 part-time or adult learners and 2,000 apprentices where we work with over 800 individual employers.

Based in our Faculty of Academic & Creative Studies, we are looking for an enthusiastic, suitably qualified individual to teach Media Studies across a range of Level 2 and 3 provision. As well as being an inspiring lecturer with the ability to enable all learners to reach their true potential, you will hold an appropriate subject qualification to degree level along with a Level 5 teaching qualification or willingness to obtain one.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To teach production and theory based units on a range of courses including A level, BTEC Level 2 & 3.
  • To act as Personal Tutor to a group of students and undertake the duties associated with this pastoral role
  • Play an active role in the marketing of the College and the Department through such activities as open days and through liaison with local employers and schools
  • Engage in core duties including preparation, marking, monitoring student progress, preparing reports, setting and marking of examination papers, developing and preparing flexible learning materials
  • Undertake normal administrative duties required of lecturers including assistance with admissions, selection, enrolment, induction and providing management information as required

 Required Skills and Experience:

  • Possesses as a minimum a degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • Holds an appropriate teaching qualification such as DTLLS, PGCE or equivalent
  • Technical proficiency in the following software:- Photoshop, Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro
  • A solid understanding of both practical media and theory based practice
