Enforcement & Market Oversight, Unauthorised Business Department Disclosure Paralegals x 2 (12months FTC)
We are currently looking for two Paralegals on a 12 months Fixed Term Contract.

The role is overseen by the Criminal Disclosure Unit, a team headed up by the FCA's Chief Criminal Investigator and which provides assistance and advice in relation to disclosure across Enforcement.
The role
Working alongside a fully integrated team of investigators and lawyers that investigates and brings regulatory and/or criminal proceedings, you will form part of the Disclosure Team and will be responsible for:
  • Reviewing material using a digital evidence management system (EMS) and applying document descriptions to the material in accordance with the requirements of the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996.
  • Assisting in the creation of non-sensitive and sensitive schedules of the unused material in preparation for trial.
  • Assisting the Disclosure Team in ensuring that case files and records are accurately and efficiently maintained, including document scheduling, archiving and retrieval and appropriate use of Enforcement & Market Oversight (EMO) document management procedures.
  • Drafting legal documents, including correspondence, memos and minutes.
  • Preparation of disclosure bundles involving timely and accurate complex document preparation including photocopying, collation, pagination, labelling and listing.
  • Maintaining and promoting effective working relationships with colleagues in other business areas and with external bodies.

About you
Minimum

  • Evidence of Legal training (for example Law at A level or degree level) or experience of working in a law firm.
  • Experience of document and evidence management.

Essential
  • Ability to analyse complex evidence and apply a description accurately reflecting the contents in a comprehensive and concise manner.
  • Ability to work confidently with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Previous experience with the use of case management systems and evidence review platforms.
  • Ability to take responsibility for making timely decisions based on relevant analysis.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines, whilst maintaining accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Robust, self-motivated and a good team player.
  • Continuously seeks out new and more effective ways to conduct work, and feeds this back to management.
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a team, valuing different perspectives and backgrounds, and working with other departments and divisions collaboratively, minimising silos.
  • Open to learning, challenge and change, and be prepared to be flexible to new tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ability to exercise own judgement where necessary and appropriate.

Desirable
  • Completed or in the process of completing legal qualification.
  • An understanding of the Criminal Procedure & Investigations Act 1996, the legislation which governs criminal disclosure, together with the Code of Practice and related guidance.
  • Some knowledge of the context of investigatory work.
  • Some knowledge of regulatory investigations/litigation.
  • Some knowledge of criminal investigations/litigation.

EMO Enforcement Unauthorised Business Department

Enforcement conducts forensic investigations into suspected misconduct and, where appropriate, pursues and remedies misconduct by firms and individuals through criminal, civil and administrative sanctions and orders including:
  • Bringing criminal prosecutions and seeking penalties to deter misconduct.
  • Applying for civil orders to provide an appropriate degree of protection for consumers.
  • Requiring compensation to redress the consequences of misconduct, where appropriate.

UBD investigates firms which are not authorised by the FCA but which are carrying out activities that require authorisation. Unauthorised firms pose a significant risk to consumers. UBD has civil and criminal powers to tackle these firms and protect consumers.

  • These roles are graded L&F A and are 12 months Fixed Term Contract. There are 2 positions available.
  • The salary range will be approximately 26,000 GBP to 28,000 GBP plus a competitive benefits package and non-contributory pension
