Highways Maintenance Operative
On behalf of a major Highways Maintenance contractor Vector Recruitment Solutions are looking for people who either have experience and qualifications related to Highways Maintenance or those that are looking to start a career within Highways Maintenance.
For those looking to start a career in the sector our client will provide full training, including HGV Class 2, NRSWA and Traffic Management Qualifications and will also look to support those that want to move into leadership positions.
All successful candidates will be drug and alcohol tested prior to starting and will require a DBS check, this will be done by the client so no requirement to currently hold one.
This is a straight permanent contract with our client.
The Job
To undertake duties associated with the maintenance and construction of public highways, including routine and cyclic maintenance activities, minor civils works and traffic management. The successful candidate will also need to be available to undertake winter and emergency maintenance out of hours activities on a standby rota basis throughout the year.
Requirements
* CSCS Card (We can provide advice on how to obtain a CSCS card)
* Driving Licence
* Good communication skills and basic literacy and numeracy
* Ability to undertake a high level of manual work and work outdoors in all weathers
* Able to demonstrate good customer care skills (i.e. dealing with the public)
Desirable
* Hold HGV Class 2 (Class C) driving license
* New Roads and Street Works (NRSWA) Operative Accreditation
* Qualifications in Traffic Management, all levels are relevent from T1/T2, 12AB, 12B LTMO, 12AB Foreman and IPV Drivers.
Hours of work
39 hours per week Monday to Friday. 8 hrs per day Mon - Thurs, 7hrs Friday.
Days or nights available.
You will also be required to go on the on-call rota for emergency call outs and winter maintenance (gritting) duties.
Rates of Pay
There are five operative levels from Basic Operative to Chargehand.
Starting rates of pay depend on qualifications, with the lowest level earning a basic salary in excess of GBP19,000 basic per annum to the highest level earning a basic salary in excess of GBP26,500 per annum (based on soley day shift).
There is excellent potential for overtime, enhanced rates for nights, weekday overtime, weekend overtime, standby and call out
