My client is a successful global company that provides a variety of on-site Laboratory Services to major pharmaceutical companies. They have a new opportunity at a respected pharmaceutical research organisation ideal for a research technician with tissue sectioning experience to join their pathology lab.

The Job
Joining a friendly team, you will support novel target discovery and validation, understanding of disease biology, building of biological rationale for candidate therapeutic targets and translational investigations using IHC assays upon clinical biopsies across therapeutic areas of Oncology, Respiratory, Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolic disease.
Key Tasks of the job include:
  • Tissue sample accessioning, fixation, processing and embedding tasks
  • Histological tissue slides and block filing
  • Executes routine preclinical and clinical FFPE and frozen tissue histological sectioning to a routinely high quality and fast turnaround
  • Digital slide scanning using Aperio Slide Scanners
  • Executes tinctorial histological staining on automated systems
  • Assists with preparation and running of Immunohistochemistry (IHC) assays on a range of automated platforms
  • Maintenance of routine pathology equipment including reagent monitoring, changing and waste disposal
  • Prepares solutions, stains and reagents in accordance with standard procedures
  • Performs and monitors inventory of supplies, equipment and reagents used. Places orders for replacements as required
  • Maintains tidiness and cleanliness of Pathology laboratory
  • Microscopic quality control of tissue sections
  • Precise labelling of samples and accurate recording of data
  • Ensures own work is compliant with Safety, Health and Environment standards
About You
To apply for this role:
  • You will have proven experience in sectioning with a variety of clinical tissue types. This will be from a high throughput pathology laboratory. Experience from a hospital environment in a routine sectioning role would be a distinct advantage
  • It is desirable to have a background in the pharmaceutical industry or knowledge of the drug development process
  • It is desirable to have experience with slide scanning and image analysis
