Role Outline

My client is looking for an experienced Strategic Buyer to join the Supply chain department of a manufacturing / assembly plant that has around 60,000 components on its books with around 25,000 live at any one time. These are spread over around 600 suppliers.

This arm of the business designs, engineers and manufactures measurement equipment for the utilities industry.The main products are Flow meters for the Water and Gas sector. These are assembled and in some cases made onsite with some of the components being bought in from suppliers.

The Strategic buyers role is to ensure all purchases are in line with the required specification, price range, delivery schedule and terms in global supplier base.

The role is site based but will involve some travel at times. The estimated split will be around 80% site based and 20% spent with suppliers.

The candidate will need a strong background in a similar buying role within a high volume manufacturing environment.

The site itself has around 250 staff working there from production staff to senior management. The business itself is very stable as it supplies into a recession proof market ( the utilities sector )

There is a very good team ethic in the office and the right candidate will need to fit in with that.

Responsibilities will include :

• You will be Managing a portfolio of approved suppliers and oversee their performance against expected.
• You will be analysing bids to ensure that the best solution is reached and negotiate with main suppliers.
• You will be expected to assist with any NPI projects by securing early supplier information and costings.
• You will need to be comfortable in dealing with supply orders, delivery and invoice processing as well as reports and updates in the SAP system.
• You will also be a main contact between suppliers and the factory and responsible for making sure that all updates and actions are reflected in the systems.
• Excellent communication skills.

Requirements

• 5 Years Experience in a direct materials procurement position.
• Degree or equivalent in a related field.
• Strong attention to detail and problem solving skills.
• Strong negotiation skills
• Comfortable working with legal and contractual terms and language.
• SAP experience
• International experience within a corporate environment
