Job purpose

Reporting to the Managing Partner, the role involves managing all financial operations of the Firm including providing budgetary and financial information and analyses to the management, ensuring the work of the Cashier’s Department is carried out in an efficient manner, operating as the Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration and also managing office services and IT department.

As the firm expands and the financial team grows, the role is also likely to develop into the Head of Finance / Finance Controller / Director and it is a perfect opportunity for an ambitious individual who wants to progress the career.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the entire accounting, invoicing and credit control function of the firm
  • Supervising Cashier’s Department
  • Managing and analysis of reports, accounts, budgets and cash flow forecasts and reporting to the management
  • Monitoring of the Key Performance Indicators and financial trends and reporting to the management
  • Liaising with the firm's Accountants, Bankers and HMRC, as required
  • Ensuring full compliance with the SRA Accounts Rules
  • Fulfilling all responsibilities of the Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration
  • Dealing with accreditation application processes (Lexcel, Investors in People, etc.) in line with the firm’s business plan
  • Dealing with regulatory bodies on any issues, audits or renewal processes
  • Maintaining appropriate insurance policies
  • Office facilities management
  • Managing in-house IT and support staff

Key requirements (skills, qualifications, experience)

  • An accountancy qualification
  • Experience in a similar role working in a reputable law firm
  • Experience of managing and developing financial staff
  • Experience with working with a legal case and accounts management system
  • Knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules
  • Ability and skills to take on COFA role
  • Demonstrable experience and success with Lexcel and other accreditation application processes
  • Commitment to personal and professional development in the finance field
  • Membership of ILFM an advantage
  • A robust approach to financial discipline
  • Good independent judgment and decision making abilities
  • Ability to use initiative, set priorities and delegate work as appropriate
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A dynamic, committed approach and a “can do” attitude
  • Confident & self-motivated
