Junior Packaging Technologist

Company: A global packaging manufacturer providing a variety of solutions from Food to Household Personal Care.

Location: Louth

Salary: DOE

Job Purpose: Support and co-ordination of all technical and product development activities in a timely manner, focusing on continuous improvement, product enhancement, productivity, sales growth and cost down initiatives.

Responsible for:

* Day to day support of the Technical manager and all technical activities.
* Manage or support the key business strategic projects as identified by Divisional Technical Team, ensuring focus and drive to deliver the necessary results in the given timeframe.
* Manage or support the key technical site projects and trials ensuring focus and drive to deliver the necessary results in the given timeframe.
* Provide technical support as required with customers to review product performance, account review and product development opportunities.
* Ensuring all required analytical testing is carried out and reports are written.
* Provide Technical analysis of materials and samples in-line with development requirements
* Ensuring the trial database, project tracker and technical systems that support the performance of the department are maintained on the daily basis.
* Support the Group Procurement Team in delivering cost saving initiatives with validation of new and alternative products.
* Support the central Technical team in the creation of "right first time" packaging solutions to meet customer performance requirements.
* Help with the management of the technical sign off process for all new products and specifications before first delivery to a customer.
* Ensuring the product information forms are checked for the manufacturing team.
* Ensuring all Development trials are produced with Technical supervision, relevant information is captured, and reports are written.
* Achieve agreed objectives with the business unit Technical Manager
* Perform other duties not written above as prescribed by the line manager.
* Travelling between sites, customers and suppliers will be required.

Job Responsibilities:

* Support the Business Unit Technical Manager with day to day operation
* Drive a culture of safety and compliance throughout the Technical Department.
* Liaise with all departments on material and product enhancements to improve existing products and implement cost out initiatives.
* Technical validation of new and alternative raw materials.
* Ensure the timely supply of information in line with customer and internal stakeholders expectations.
* Develop and maintain metrics for technical performance improvement.
* Support the investigation and resolution of technical / quality complaints
* Key account technical support
* Provision of technical support to sales, customer services and key accounts.
* Customer liaison - technical, NPD, training reviews etc.
* Work in tandem with central technical team on group project initiatives
* Technical input in to market /product conferences / reviews.

Requirements:

* Packaging background ideally; educated in packaging technology, design, manufacturing engineering or related discipline ideally
* Demonstrable workload management skills
* Inquisitive by nature and willingness to look for novel solutions
* Extrusion experience
* NPD
