Senior Counsel " Litigation Norwich
Aviva are looking to recruit an experienced Solicitor/Barrister as a Senior Counsel. This role will report into the UK Insurance Legal team with a primary focus on Life & GI litigation.
Are you passionate about the resolution of disputes and litigation? This is a critical role protecting Avivas interests and reputation in any legal action or complex complaint case.
The Team
In this role, you will lead the UKI litigation team based in Norwich reporting to our Director of Legal within UKGI and have an additional reporting line to the Director of Legal for Life.
The primary focus of the litigation team is to resolve customer disputes, provide clear legal advice and defend any litigation opposing Aviva and/or our policyholders.
The existing litigation team have an excellent wealth of GI litigation and insurance knowledge and achieve significant costs and claims savings. In addition to UK Life matters, you will also advise the UK General Insurance business and run the UKGI legal team on claims and fraud issues.

You will need to engage regularly with senior leaders as well as Operations and Customer Services and Complaints teams within the UK Life and UK GI business, and will be answerable for the reporting of legal risks within the business.

The Person
You are an experienced litigation lawyer with a consistent track record of resolving complex commercial litigation disputes.
Your ability to identify legal risk, provide legal consultation and resolve commercial and customer disputes is very important.
If you can lead the team and can demonstrate how they would develop themselves and the role, then you're exactly what we are looking for.
Duties & Responsibilities
Primarily responsible for the conduct of all litigation for the UK Life business, as well as advising on pre-litigation disputes and working with the business to prevent litigation arising.
Support across several products and business areas including:
- Pensions and annuities
- Life policies
- Endowments
- Critical illness
- Income protection policies
- Equity release products
- Disputes with IFAs and intermediaries
- Oversight of involvement Avivas involvement in securities/investor class actions

Skills & Experience required
Previous litigation experience is essential for the role
You will already have a background in financial services either in-house or from private practice
At least 3-5 Years PQE
