Job Description

This is a new position, working for BaxterStorey near the centre of Cambridge, next to guided bus route and ten minutes from the station. Monday - Friday, this is a salaried position working sociable office hours with no split shifts.

As an Assistant Manager you thrive on getting the best out of people, you draw satisfaction from managing, training and supporting a team. You provide a professional catering service, ensuring that company standards are maintained and that Client expectations are met.


  • Assist the Manager in ensuring that the location achieves the financial targets agreed with the client in line with the budget.
  • Work with the manager to monitor the work of all the staff and carry out appraisals, recognise training needs and potential as appropriate.
  • Hold team meetings on a regular basis to communicate targets, standards required and company and client information.
  • Ensure that customers are given a prompt and efficient service and that their food service and value expectations are consistently exceeded.
  • Conduct Food Safety, Health and Safety  and Risk Assessments to ensure that all standards and procedures in respect of Hygiene and Safety are established and maintained


As the Assistant Manager you will have experience in a supervisory or assistant management role ideally in contract catering/hospitality/retail catering and be degree educated or equivalent.  You use your entrepreneurial skills to create a thriving and successful working environment, possess excellent management and communication skills, and have a good understanding of report writing and financial management. You will be able to demonstrate you analytical approach to problem solving and have the ability to display a real passion for food and customer service and be financially and commercially astute.

Ensuring the food service delivery to two outlets is correctly marketed and merchandised on a daily basis. Becoming involved in producing reports reflecting the sales trends and offer, reviewing the service as part of the management team, building relationships with the client, our customers and the catering team. Conducting customer surveys for the department and presenting the results. Leading the provision of the hospitality service and ensuring room layup is correct, on time, and maintaining the standards.
