With this in mind, we are looking for a driven and dynamic individual to join our Operations Team as Assistant Operations Manager. This role reports into the Operations Manager and will assume total responsibility for processing activities at Canterbury. You will also oversee the warehouse departments on site. 

Specifically, the role is responsible for the activities and performance of the teams relating to the management of: department health and safety, manpower planning and team development; operational productivity and performance; agreed continual improvement programmes across all aspects of departmental performance.

As a member of the Canterbury Operations Team, the job holder will contribute to overall development of the Site/Company tactical and operational performance and development as well as future strategic direction.

Key Responsibilities of the role

•    Deliver against operational targets
•    Ensure the full legal and regulatory compliance of all departmental activity
•    Set, agree, manage and achieve key performance indicators with the supervisory teams
•    Manage the performance of the team in accordance with Company policies and procedures
•    Manage the recruitment, training and development of the work force
•    Champion the development of a “can do” team work oriented culture through management of people
•    Ensuring the effective use of visual management and communication tools
•    Measure and analyse the capability of production facilities and processes in order to identify cost reduction and opportunities to improve 
•    Champion best practice and ensure continuance at shop floor level
•    Manage and optimize the sequencing and production of goods to ensure on time and in full delivery of customer orders

Essential Experience

•    Proven experience in a similar managerial role
•    Experience of meeting production and productivity targets and able to demonstrate improvements made
•    Lean manufacturing experience
•    Experience of managing inventories/stock levels
•    Health and safety trained
•    Computer literate with a great eye for detail

Desirable Experience

•    Experience in the steel industry or manufacturing/heavy industry experience
•    Warehouse management experience
•    Managing budgets
