Postdoctoral position in cell biology and immunology of neutrophils

A postdoctoral position (Research Associate) is available in the laboratory of Dr Borko Amulic for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to investigate the molecular regulation of neutrophils in infectious disease. This MRC-funded project will focus on the mechanism and function of neutrophil effector responses such as release of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). NETs consist of extruded chromatin with antimicrobial and immunomodulatory properties and they are released via an active process called NETosis. NETs are an important part of the innate immune response to pathogens but also contribute to pathology in diseases such as malaria and inflammatory disorders.

The project will span cell biology and immunology and consist of:

  • Mechanistic studies of NET formation and other neutrophil responses, aiming to identify novel regulators of neutrophil inflammatory functions;

  • The in vivo role of neutrophils in malaria, investigating how these cells contribute to malaria pathogenesis, using mouse models and patient samples.

The post is initially funded for 24 months and will be held within the School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. Upon generation of meaningful outcomes, it is likely that the post will be extended. The position is open to candidates who have or are soon to obtain a PhD in biomedical sciences, with a proven ability to creatively investigate complex questions.

Applications should include a CV and a brief statement outlining key areas of expertise and reasons why you would like to join the group. Informal enquiries can be addressed to Dr Borko Amulic: .
