Apprenticeships are open to all ages and abilities and are designed to encourage people who may not have the necessary experience or qualifications to access employment. Nottinghamshire County Council is looking to employ a Highways Trainee.

The successful applicant will join the Council’s Transport Planning & Programme Development Team as an apprentice. Their role will be varied as they will help plan, develop and deliver strategies and programmes to provide transport improvements for Nottinghamshire’s residents, businesses and visitors.

Working as a Highways Trainee for the Council you will:

  • Collect, analyse and present data and written information to inform the development of transport strategies, programmes and schemes (such as those relating to walking, cycling, bus, road, rail and smarter travel choices)
  • Assist with the planning, development and design of transport strategies, programmes, and schemes
  • Monitor and assess the impacts of existing and potential transport programmes and schemes
  • Work as part of a team to help deliver projects
  • Develop professional relationships with your own team, other work colleagues, elected members, stakeholders and the public
  • Undertake training to enable you to carry out your role.

A condition of this employment is the successful completion of the Transport Planning Technician level 3 Apprenticeship Standard.

The duration of this apprenticeship is 38 months. In order to undertake this apprenticeship you must have English and Maths GCSEs at Grade C or above or functional skills at Level 2 in English and Maths, or the ability to achieve these by the end of the apprenticeship.
