Brook Street is looking to recruit an experienced, organised Executive Officer for our Government client based in Ryton. We are looking for someone who will provide management support and operate with minimal supervision, exercising independent judgement in completing assignments.

The College of Policing provide those working in policing with the skills and knowledge necessary to prevent crime, protect the public, and secure public trust. An exciting opportunity has recently arisen at the College for a Legal Researcher. The post-holder will provide dedicated legal support to the wider business; this includes, legally validating documents, conducting legal research and responding to legal queries.

You will work as part of a busy, friendly team in either the Harrogate, Ryton or London office and your duties will include:

  • Delivering timely legal research and validation of College publications, products and services to provide an efficient legal resource underpinning professional practice in policing.

  • You will horizon scan for new legislation, case law, legal precedents and policy changes which may impact on professional policing standards.

  • You will acknowledge, research and respond to queries on legal matters providing informed and reasoned interpretation. You will also draft articles for the College Legal Digest.

  • You will review and validate all College publications and materials for legal accuracy and compliance with equality, diversity and human rights good practice and the Code of Ethics to ensure documents are fit for purpose and legally accurate.

  • You will provide legal and administrative support to the team's Legal Advisors and the Legal Services Manager as and when required.

The ideal candidate will feel confident providing junior management support and carrying out administrative duties that are moderately complex. You will feel comfortable preparing and verifying correspondence; creating, compiling and verifying report data; managing the workload of a small team; liaising with internal and external stakeholders.

You will be responsible for the team mailbox and should be familiar with all Microsoft packages; particularly Word, Outlook and Excel.
