We are looking for two IT Support Technicians to join the Department of Engineering's Information and Computing Services group (ICS) based at the Department's main site in Trumpington Street. ICS provides IT services with a focus on supporting the Department of Engineering's world leading teaching and research. The group is divided into Support, Infrastructure, Divisional, Development and Printing teams with more than 30 staff and a range of expertise across all areas of IT.

These posts are part of a five-person support team headed by an IT Support Team Leader. The IT Support Team is responsible for front line IT services and provides first and second line support to users in the Department of Engineering. The Support Team work closely with all members across the ICS group and have input into the operational and strategic IT needs of the Department. 

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual seeking a position where they will be exposed to a wide range of technologies in a busy and dynamic environment. They should enjoy interacting with customers and have a desire to progress their technical skills. The IT Support Team is the face of IT for many users and must respond quickly, communicate effectively and provide high levels of service. An ideal candidate would have demonstratable skills and experience with:

  • Delivering customer facing IT Services
  • Troubleshooting PC hardware and software issues
  • Microsoft Windows and Office products
  • User administration and Computer Deployment

Experience with networking (DNS, DHCP, CISCO), Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu) and Windows Server (2008, 2012, 2016) would be advantage.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
