Operations is the core of our business - keeping the mail moving to every corner of the UK. Behind our team of postwomen and men, sorters and drivers, there are Operations; the decision-makers and motivators who lead our teams to be the very best that they can be.
About the programme
On this 3.5 year programme, you'll join one of our vehicle operating centres or regional distribution centres within the traffic office that ensures the mail keeps moving. Leading between 15 and 50 people in one of our operational units around the country, you'll inspire progress, improve performance and motivate your team to ensure that your unit is running as efficiently and smoothly as possible.
Because we operate nationally, our apprentices will be located around the country. Where possible a static location will be allocated, but travel to other sites and functions during the programme will be required.
You will work towards a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship leading to BSc (Hons) Professional Practice in Supply Chain Leadership and you will receive management development training throughout the whole programme.
You'll be supported to do this at every step through a combination of one-to-one mentoring and opportunities to put your skills to the test. It's a unique blend of skills training and on-the job experience that will help you become a real leader who can make a real difference to our business.
Who we're looking for
Our Distribution Function is paramount to the success of the business and the achievement of our quality targets. It is vital that our vehicles move to time and arrive at the correct location to ensure the onward successful delivery. We also need to be agile in order to meet late requests and additional mail volumes from our internal and external customers. Finally we need to ensure we achieve all legislative requirements with a particular emphasis on Health and Safety, not only within our own premises but whilst our professional drivers are out on the road and visiting customer sites.
We're looking for individuals with a passion for people, who have a natural ability to lead and who will take overall responsibility for the management of the transport and distribution operations within the Distribution/Vehicle Operating Centre shift. You will be responsible for leading and motivating the team to create high performance and commitment, ensuring the work plan is achieved through managing what we call pipeline interfaces.
An eye for detail is also important as you'll learn how to manage resources and budgets - all with a view to ensuring your team is working at its very best, whilst also considering ways to improve and work smarter.
You'll need a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, a full UK driving licence and you must be willing to travel to other locations during the programme.
