Senior Legal Advisor
Senior Legal Advisor
GBP50,000-55,000 per annum
Full Time, Permanent Position
Central London
Who will you be working for?
The Security Industry Authority is an independent body responsible for regulating the private security industry within the United Kingdom. Their role includes the issuing of licenses, under the Private Security Industry Act 2001, to individuals undertaking designated activities within the private security industry. They are also responsible for ensuring that only fit and proper people and organisations deliver regulated private security services.
The role of Senior Legal Advisor
You will be working alongside the Legal Department dealing with both criminal prosecutions and statutory appeals for the Security Industry Authority (SIA), and in the future, the Office of Immigration Services.
There is a very diverse and interesting range of work that you will be involved with as the SIA can be involved in anything from prosecuting for the breach of the licensing act or security staff working without a license, to working on appeals against the refusal to grant a license or the revoking of a license, amongst a host of other cases.
You will help give advice on investigations, be involved in review groups, attend court where necessary (being an advocate for the prosecutor in court), share information and help to train or guide people across the business in legal processes where necessary.
About you
This is a small friendly team, looking for someone that is confident and robust, able to explain and communicate well at all levels such as senior Central Government colleagues or external legal advisors (including opposing legal advisors).
There are lots of training opportunities and options to work on a lot of diverse work, so someone very keen and looking to take on new opportunities or responsibilities would fit in well.
Advocacy and/or court experience is a must and you will be, or have been, a Solicitor or Barrister with extensive post qualification experience qualified in England and Wales with a current practising certificate.
Any experience of advising on POCA proceedings, due to the financial element of some cases, would also be ideal but is not essential.
Please note that you will be required to go through Baseline (BPSS) level clearance, which would require British Citizenship and that you have lived within the UK for 2 out of the past 10 years, with reference or proof of residency readily available.
