Junior Colourist
Main duties & responsibilites:
- Assist the Technical Colourist in all aspects of Colour Control
- Data capture via the use of a Photospectrometer (BYK-Mac i / X-Rite)
- Assess colour trends & data - able to report back findings to the wider Technical Team
- Compose reports/evaluations based on findings during colour assessments
- Perform accurate visual assessment of colour vs. Master Plaque
- Customer-facing role: able to represent the company at Colour Harmony events in a professional manner
- Assist with Appearance Approval Report generation and submission
- Must achieve 'Superior Discrimination' on Munsell Test, and be capable of testing wider Paint Team on an annual basis
- Manage and develop new colour introductions in-line with NPI process
- Assess and buy-off supplier batches: determine whether suitable for use on-site
- Involved in Paint Laboratory data collection (i.e. Film Build Analysis, WaveScan, Gloss etc.)
- Integral part of new programs from initial sprayout through to launch
- Liaise with all departments, suppliers & customers as required
- Buy & obtain materials where necessary
- Present data/results to suppliers, colleagues or customers in a concise presentation format
- Willing to travel to Customers/Suppliers where appropriate - international travel is a possibility
- Other duties as assigned to support the business
Skills & Experience:
- Educated to HNC or equivalent with relevant discipline/experience within manufacturing
- Full UK Driving License - ability to travel when necessary
- Direct experience of APQP & PPAP
- Good decision-making & troubleshooting skills
- Self-motivated/self-directed i.e. able to work independently of others if required, with minimal supervision
- Good working knowledge of various software programs (i.e. Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads to meet project deadlines
- Strong problem-solving/problem-resolution skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Preferably has previous experience in Paint application techniques and requirements
- Understanding of continuous improvement techniques and tools
- Understanding of the functional operation of an Automated Paint facility
- Knowledge of "A" Class painted surface standards
- Automotive background (preferred)
- Exposure to IATF/VDA Quality Standards (preferred)
- Knowledge/experience of PFMEA, Process Flow & Control Plan documents (preferred)
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing (preferred)
- Knowledge / experience of using CAD software (i.e. SolidWorks / Inventor / AutoCAD) (preferred)
- Previous experience of automotive project launches (preferred)
