St Michael’s is in the heart of the City of Bath and is a place where there has been an active Christian presence for almost 900 years. It remains significant for tourists and visitors, but also as a gathering space for local people. Our vision is to provide a place of worship and community that offers welcome and hospitality to all who enter. The Café, and the events we host, are an integral part of that vision, enabling the building to be open most days, providing opportunity to relax, talk or seek quietness, find refreshment and enjoy high quality exhibitions, events and concerts.
Whilst supporting the wider aims of the church, you will:
Manage the day to day operation of St Michael’s Café, ensuring the highest quality provision and service.
In co-ordination with the Church Administrator manage events and concerts with associated hospitality.
Administer practical and functional aspects of church operations.
The Person we are looking for:
Enthusiastic and energetic, you can work independently and flexibly, occasionally in challenging circumstances and under pressure. You are organised, with good communication skills necessary to motivate, support and develop staff. You must be sympathetic to Christian aims and ethos.
You will have experience and a proven track record of managing staff and have a strong customer service ethos ideally in a hospitality setting. You will have good working knowledge of catering and/or facilities management.
You will have experience of managing and working to a budget, familiar with costing and pricing in the context of catering.
You will be eager to learn, and also able to motivate and encourage others to learn and acquire new skills.
You will also have a strong working knowledge of at least one of the areas of food and hygiene management, and health & safety provision.
You will be computer literate, familiar with Microsoft Office; experience of QuickBooks would be helpful.
We anticipate that this is reinforced with relevant educational qualifications in Hospitality, English and Mathematics. The post is subject to enhanced DBS checks.
