Head of Platform Engineering

We have a new role in a Glasgow based Government Owned Organisation with a large technology landscape. The head of platform engineering will lead and energise a cross-functional department of technologists to build secure and scalable platforms that meet business needs. Ensuring end-to-end delivery of business / technology policy. These platforms will be delivered using Agile, DevOps and continuous integration techniques. Quality will be measured at every step of the pipeline utilising automated testing frameworks. This role will be exciting and challenging. You will be responsible for: * Responsible for delivering end-to-end processes and technologies which create secure, resilient and scalable technology platforms * Drive increase in quality and customer experience through enhancements to testing frameworks * Responsible for the implementation of DevOps and continuous improvement techniques and toolsets to increase efficiency and automation * Identify ways to reduce release deployment times and execute them through automation and process definition * Own the development and on-going nurturing of the SLC DevOps community * Own and develop SLC technology platforms; Ensure they deliver consistent customer experience in-line with agreed business standards. * Collate information and metrics from the delivery platforms and influence the product roadmap from user feedback. * Integrate a team of multi-disciplined technologists by defining new operating models and ways of working * Deep understanding of the principles of DevOps (e.g. Continuous Integration, automated build, test and deployment, close collaboration between Development and Operations teams, shortening the time between development and release to production) * Commercial experience of implementing DevOps processes and tools * Enthusiasm and passion for utilising high levels of instrumentation and automation to help the business build new innovative services and deploy them rapidly and stably to production to enable business value * Experience of leading operations teams and supporting business critical services on a 24x7 basis including a strong systems administration background.
