Membership Development Officer
Reference number: A2850818
Location: Somerset & East Devon
Salary starting at: £17,276 to £18,716 per annum
Hours: Full time
Contract: Permanent

We are looking for an individual with these skills and the ability to pass on their passion for the natural world to others. Our Membership Development Officer in Somerset and Devon will encourage more people to join as members and support and fund the work of the RSPB.

We are the UK's largest conservation organisation, with over 200 nature reserves giving a home to thousands of species across the whole of the UK. By creating and protecting some of the country's rarest habitats we are ensuring the future for some of our most threatened wildlife.

You will bring energy, resilience and a 'can-do' attitude to enthuse people to join the RSPB via membership and help us to halt species declines and habitat loss. We will provide you with ongoing support, full training and a portable display to help you convey our conservation stories to people in and around Somerset and Devon.

Your working day will revolve around enthusing people about nature and wildlife at a variety of events and locations, including farmers' markets, shopping centres, large shows and festivals, where you will pass on your passion for our work, and inspire people to support us.

From October to March it is "Starling Season" at our RSPB Ham Wall Nature Reserve, and you will spend some days at the visitor welcome building alongside other RSPB Staff and Volunteers. You'll explain the conservation work going on there and encourage the public to support this through becoming an RSPB member. Talking to visitors under a breathtaking starling flock of up to a million birds will be an interesting, exciting and unforgettable part of this role.

Please note that we require the successful candidate to work most weekends, bank holidays, occasional evenings and school holidays, so you will need to be happy and available to work some unsocial hours. We operate a Time Off In Lieu scheme to support your flexible working. Applicants should also be comfortable in loading and unloading vehicles, setting up gazebo stands and lone working at some events.

Full training and support will be given to successful candidates and a valid driving licence is essential. The RSPB has an obligation to use Members' funds wisely and you will need to be motivated to hit and even exceed personal membership sign up targets, gaining essential new funds for the organisation while keeping our costs low.

Travel costs and a work van (which you will keep at home) are included. Other benefits include a pension contribution scheme, a work mobile phone and discounts at certain stores through our staff association and more!

Nature is in trouble, and you will be part of the solution. Your work in inspiring people to take action will make a difference for wildlife and you will see the difference you make. If you want to be part of a dedicated team working to save nature, and have the passion and desire we are looking for, we want to hear from you!

Imagine a world richer in nature. Together we can make a difference!

This role is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. You will be asked to declare unspent convictions and cautions at offer of employment stage.

Closing date: 23 September 2018
