As Head of Business Development & Engagement the appointee will maintain and grow some of Bionow's key income streams viz. membership, sponsorship and events delivering value to Bionow Members across the North and generating income for the business. Specifically, you will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with senior management at key accounts to ensure their long term loyalty and contribution. These include University Sponsors who receive a tailored service which includes facilitating connections with companies, handling specialist enquiries and delivering support to students via careers presentations and placements within the network. You will manage the relationships and commercial agreements with Bionow's Preferred Partners continually looking to increase Member engagement with their services. You will directly manage the two Membership Managers in the retention and recruitment of Member companies and the delivery of member services, introducing and marketing This is a unique opportunity for an experienced, commercially-minded individual to join a focused, highly motivated team to lead membership growth and business development in the UK's Northern Life Science sector. Bionow is an award-winning not-for-profit membership organisation sitting at the heart of the Northern life sciences community which comprises over 1100 businesses employing 40,000 highly skilled people, is home to the N8 partnership of research-intensive Universities and with strong centres of clinical excellence. Bionow's membership base ranges from very small businesses all the way through to large corporates. Our service provision includes procurement schemes with significant cost savings, exclusive insurance benefits, R&D funding solutions, recruitment and specialist business support. Our well-established, high-profile events calendar provides a platform for high value networking within our vibrant community., the comprehensive portfolio of Bionow products and services to SME biomedical companies and the associated supply chain. In addition, you will have a key role in profiling the Bionow business, building strategic linkages and generating ideas for new products, services and areas of business. Finally, you will support the CEO in managing and running the business overseeing key areas such as HR, HSE and GDPR compliance plus developing and managing key sales systems. With a customer-focused, hands-on, commercial and entrepreneurial approach, the role will require broad biomedical / life science industry understanding to identify opportunities for collaboration, partnership working and the provision of specialist business support services. The successful candidate will be a natural networker with a proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships at a senior level, with a track record and passion for winning new business within Bionow's target market. The candidate will be a comfortable presenter and be able to sell a conceptual value proposition in an informal and engaging manner. Candidates will be self-starters with a professional manner who can demonstrate drive, tenacity and a strong team ethic coupled with exemplary communication, influencing & presentation skills. Proven experience in technical sales/marketing and/or business management perhaps coupled with a scientific background will be advantageous and other key competencies include strong IT and data management skills. Knowledge in the commercial use of e-marketing and other promotional/marketing approaches will be regarded as a key additional benefit. Finally, the successful candidate will be financially astute and have the ambition and potential capacity to be considered to progress to Executive Director within 1-2 years.
