Essex County Council is one of the largest, most reputable local authorities in the UK. It is also one of the most dynamic, with a strong reputation for innovation and embracing change. However, there's more we can do. More we must do. That's why we're looking for people to join us who are excited by the challenges ahead and who are inspired by our vision. People who are ambitious and driven to help us become even better at what we do.
The opportunity
This is a hugely exciting challenge that will see you bring your highly specialist consultancy experience to design and implement innovative organisational development (OD) interventions that support our visions and strategic aims for the county. It won't be easy, but you wouldn't want it to be.
Our Organisational Effectiveness team works collaboratively on OD and business improvement to identify and deliver holistic interventions that drive transformational change and ensure it's successfully implemented and embedded. Joining us as Organisational Development Practice Lead, you'll provide the leading edge thinking that will see you shape an organisational culture that increases employee engagement and raises organisational performance. You'll need to influence senior management during complex change, as you encourage a relational and people-orientated approach to OD across our organisation. You won't just be working collaboratively across the council though, you'll also maintain and nurture relationships with external organisations to support your plans here. It's important that you're able to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of your work, too. Above all, you'll increase much-needed dialogue and conversation within the organisation, engaging employees and increasing what we're able to achieve as a council.

About you
Professionally qualified in OD, you'll be educated to Masters degree level in organisational development, psychology or other relevant behavioural science, or possess equivalent experience, and be able to demonstrate evidence of your expert knowledge in OD. You'll have a deep knowledge of organisational development theories, philosophies and methods, organisational analysis and change skills, group dynamics and advanced consulting methods. What's more, your significant experience in managing business transformation and change programmes has given you the ability to develop business cases, identify risks and create appropriate mitigation plans. Exceptional communication and influencing skills are important, as is the talent for clearly explaining complicated information to a wide range of audiences with differing levels of understanding. A strong, inspiring leader, you've significant experience managing others and are comfortable motivating and mentoring your team to success.
