We currently have the following vacancy within our Together Community Service in Devon:

Criminal Justice Recovery Navigator
Reference number: 49.18
Base: Split between Exeter, East and Mid Devon

Salary: £18,500 to £23,000 per annum depending on experience
Hours: 35 per week
Contract: Permanent

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, Criminal Justice Recovery Navigators deliver work within the Together integrated drug and alcohol system, providing support and targeted work to individuals involved in the criminal justice system and those individuals committing crime and that are at risk of becoming involved with the criminal justice system and possible prosecution. The work this post undertakes will contribute to the safety of communities from substance misuse related crime.

The post will improve access to appropriate services for clients with substance misuse issues via HM prisons, Police Custody Suites, HM Courts, assertive outreach and local community.  Working with individuals with Court and police orders, the post will work closely with all Criminal Justice Services (e.g. National Probation Service (NPS), Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs), Courts, Police and Prisons).

The post holder will ensure seamless transfers between prison and community and will work closely with street homeless outreach teams and the Police/Community Safety Teams to provide an integrated service through the provision of comprehensive and ongoing assessment, recovery planning, appropriate referral/linkage and psychosocial interventions. This includes liaising effectively with partnership agencies in order to ensure continuity of care, key working and access to appropriate services.

The Together integrated service opened its doors on April 1st, 2018 and so you will be joining us at a very exciting time. Integration means that our service welcomes people at any stage in their recovery journey, starting with the open end of harm reduction, being our needle and syringe programmes, using opportunistic advice and information skills, through to brief interventions, extended interventions and structured treatment. Our team of clinicians (Nurses, non-medical prescribers and Specialist substance misuse Doctors) ensure we have a high quality community detoxification offer as well as opioid substitution therapy. As service users progress they will move into the ‘aftercare’ and then post treatment element of recovery. Together is currently reviewing its programme delivery options, including Smart UK groups, Smart friends and family, a range of structured / unstructured interventions and assertive linkage to 12 step recovery mutual aid groups.

Day to day duties will involve you delivering a range of interventions, including: assessments for DRR/ATR, key-working, strengths based assessment, recovery planning, structured group and 1:1 work. A significant proportion of your case load will be managed in partnership with a prescribing nurse or GP who you will collaborate with closely in order to provide the safest person centred treatment experience.

As a Criminal Justice Recovery Navigator, you will be responsible for working with and motivating Together Service Users to engage in the recovery programmes we offer in Devon as well as become involved in the communities they live in so that they connect with others and feel purposeful in everyday living.

Ideally, you will already have previous experience of working in a similar field, either in the community or a similar environment, including undertaking assessments and delivering a range of evidence based substance misuse psychosocial interventions in 1:1 and group-work settings.  You will have a good understanding of group working, group dynamics, and be able to demonstrate competent group work facilitation skills. You will be comfortable dealing with the emotional content of sessions and constructively challenging the behaviours you see.  Some knowledge and understanding of criminal justice and mental health issues would be helpful.

In addition, you will be able to demonstrate excellent communication, organisation and time management skills and be confident in managing your own priorities in order to carry a diverse workload with competing demands.  You will have at least five GCSE’s (or equivalent) and either hold or be willing to undertake a Vocational Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care. A further qualification in a relevant area such as Nursing, Health and Social Care, Community Development, Psychology related, whilst not essential, would be an advantage.

Just as importantly, you will have a genuine interest in the understanding of substance misuse problems and a positive recovery focused attitude.  You will be keen to develop professionally through our training programme and will demonstrate a high level of integrity and enthusiasm for working within the un-structured direct access ‘front door’ of our service as well as the structured group programmes that we run on a continuous cycle.

Closing date for applications is noon on Friday 14th September 2018
Interview date: Thursday 27th September 2018

Please ensure that you quote reference number 49.18 on your application.
