Kitchen Assistant***
Billericay
We now have a position for a Kitchen Assistant cook to join a private Academy based in Billericay.
The primary purpose of this post is to assist with the provision of high quality food and beverage service in the kitchen and dining room and other areas where food is served as required in the preparation of meals, food service, dish and utensil washing, general cleaning and other tasks associated with catering.
This post is for term time only for 21 hours per week, working Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 12.45am to 6.30pm and Wednesday 11.45am to 6.00pm, term time only, with a salary range of GBP7,979 to GBP8,295pa.
Main Responsibilities
•To provide assistance with the preparation, cooking and service of food and beverages to the required standard as directed using modern methods, equipment and food commodities including the production of simple sauces and biscuits according to requirements.
•To follow menu plans agreed with the Catering Manager and Head Cook for meal times on the shift the post holder is responsible for (i.e. breakfast, lunch and tea)
•To assist in the kitchen with preparation of main meals, salads and sandwiches when required.
•To operate kitchen machinery such as mixers, dishwashers, etc as required.
•To learn new skills and be prepared to cover for absent colleagues in preparing and serving food.
•To assist with the setting up of the service counter, service of food according to type of service used and clearing of service area. To include, where appropriate, ensuring safe delivery of food to staff, students and guests at the place of their choice and assisting colleagues in ensuring that access to food and snacks are available in accordance with service needs.
•To wash crockery, cutlery, cooking and serving utensils and kitchen machinery.
•To support the Catering Manager and Head Cook in maintaining all food stock levels, to include stock taking and stock rotation and assist with menu planning.
•To assist in the monitoring and maintaining of records of daily fridge and freezer and food temperature in accordance with Food Hygiene Regulations and Health & Safety Policy.
To be considered for this position, the successful candidate MUST have:
* Knowledge of health and safety and good hygiene practice in the kitchen.
* Current Level 2 Award in Food Safety & Hygiene or a willingness to participate and achieving this award.
* Experience of working in a busy kitchen, ideally within a school environment.
* Experience of assisting in both preparation and service in a busy kitchen.
Salary: GBP7,979-8,295pa DOE.
