1. Job Details
Job title: Café Manager
Location: Designated Café – Can be regional from time to time
Reports to: Group Head of HR & Operations
Responsible for: Café Supervisors, Baristas, Shift / Team Leaders
2. Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to ensure that all guests experience an exceptional standard of service and environment whilst in the café and to offer expert advice on products available. To foster an exceptional environment for both guests and colleagues which provides a fast and efficient service whilst maintaining the true values and ethos of the business and brand.
3. Main Responsibilities – Product, Operations, Service, Training, Environment
Product:
- Ensures that all guests and colleagues are educated on our products and service and appropriate suggestions are given to the guests,
- Delivers and maintains the highest quality, consistent product standards,
- Follows all Company drink recipes and procedures without fail,
- Passes all e-learning and practicable training sessions in a timely manner as required by the company and in line with level of responsibility,
- Develops a sound knowledge and experiences of coffee and tea regions and the various differences in flavour and blends,
- Expertly prepares blended and cold drinks provided by the café,
- Understands and offers appropriate food products,
- Responsible for ensuring all products are in the appropriate area and stored and maintained correctly in line with guidance and compliance procedures,
- Follows and observes all hygiene and health and safety procedures whilst handling food and drink products,
Operations:
- Develops and executes sales and profit plans that are in-line with budgetary goals,
- Ensures and is accountable for profitability of the café by growing sales and controlling costs of goods, inventory levels, labour, supplies and expenses,
- Maintains, reports on and utilizes daily, weekly, quarterly and annual financial reporting tools,
- Ensures proper team member coverage, scheduling according to the needs of business while maintaining target labour costs,
- Oversees all cash and media management functions,
- Responsible for all stock management areas including ordering, reporting, levels etc.
- Able to perform all IPOS duties,
- Able to complete full opening and shut down procedures,
- Overall responsibility for all back and front of house day to day functions,
- Maintains proper loss prevention standards and monitoring and reporting effectively and timely,
- Ensure all cash handling procedures, deposits and safe procedures are followed,
- Maintains a clean well-merchandised store, following visual presentation plans and standards,
- Plans, executes and communicates all sales promotions and new product information effectively and efficiently,
- Identifies staffing, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training needs of qualified candidates.
- Facilitates on-going training and development of current staff and ensures all mandatory training is completed,
- Ensure all new staff are trained and equipped for expectations of guest experience and service standards as well as behavioural lead competencies,
- Ensures all one to ones and appraisals are carried out with supporting evidence and documentation,
- Ensures all personnel files kept on site are secure, complete and up to date,
- Conducts monthly full staff meetings with agenda and action points,
- Ensures all risk assessments are carried out accordingly and in line with regulatory compliance,
- Ensures that the café, environment and its colleagues are acting at all times in a complaint manner in brand and business capacity,
- Promotes and practices safe work habits,
- Responsible for identifying and resolving potential safety hazards, operational inconsistencies and any team member or customer incidents,
- Documents accidents, conducts initial investigation and determination of root cause in the interest of maintaining a safe work environment,
- Ensures all team members are aware of compliance in all safety initiatives including COSHH etc.
- Any other day to day activities that require management authority,
Service:
- Identifies and encourage team members to seek opportunities to drive retail product sales,
- Maintains efficient, friendly service,
- Ensures that all team members are committed to and demonstrate business ethos, values and behavioural expectations,
- Ensures that all team members provide customers with efficient, friendly, superior service on a consistent basis,
- Consistently monitors, coaches and encourages team members to be the best they can be,

Training:
- Provides ongoing training and development to all team members in the areas of operating standards, customer service and product knowledge,

- Builds morale and team spirit by fostering a work environment where team members input is encouraged and valued,
- Ensures each team member has received proper training to perform as a barista or shift supervisor efficiently,
- Continually develops team members, establishing specific performance objectives, and measuring team member performance regularly,
- Coaches and counsels team members for improved performance, documenting developmental plans as necessary,
- Recognises and rewards achievements and great performance,
- Ensures all mandatory courses and e-learning modules are complete and up to date,
- Ensure all marketing and innovative ideas are shared and considered,
Environment:
- Responsible for all cleanliness of front and back of house,
- Responsible for all orders being allocated correctly and goods received match orders placed,
- Responsible for ensuring all stock is put away timely and correctly including any labelling or shelf positioning,
- Responsible for all items matching layout plans,
- Any potential or actual hazards to be dealt with and reported accordingly,
- Responsible for ensuring guests and colleagues have a safe and clean environment,
- Supports all team members in ensuring a great customer experience is felt,
