About The Role

Unique opportunity for an ambitious Engineering Graduate with a good grounding in an Engineering or Consultancy environment to support the development of the Smart Mobility Living Lab (SMLL). The position involves working with customers to assist with the integration of electronic and electro mechanical platforms that will facilitate the testing of Autonomous Vehicles and their associated protocols - and provides wider support to enable the development of commercial testing programs.

The SMLL is a new venture being created between TRL and DG Cities, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Royal Borough of Greenwich, to establish and operate a Connected and Autonomous Vehicle testing facility. SMLL will develop solutions for national and international clients in the areas of Intelligent Transport Systems, Ultra Low Emission Autonomous Vehicles and Public & Private Smart Mobility Transport.

Key Duties / Responsibilities

  • Consult with clients to fully understand their testing objectives, agree with the client the engineering requirements and delivery programme, to secure the client's test objectives.
  • Develop the test rigs and testing protocols to achieve these objectives.
  • Support the development and approval of the test safety case.
  • Specify appropriate electronic and electro mechanical platforms within the testing environment to capture data and develop appropriate reports to secure key deliverables.
  • Support the analysis of the client's test data and report on its findings.
  • Specify software development requirements and manage their acquisition
  • Support the client's journey within the quality management framework, maximising the client's experience.
  • Support the continuous development of SMLL's testing capabilities.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience within a commercial engineering or consultancy environment.
  • A broad understanding and previous experience of applying data analysis techniques.
  • Expertise in capturing and documenting user and functional requirements.
  • Well-developed team working skills with the ability and confidence to work independently when required.

Desirable

  • Programming experience in one or more languages.
  • Practical or research based experience within the CAV domain.
  • Experience of "big data" related to Telematics, Autonomy, Mobility and Connected Services
  • Knowledge of hardware / stats / machine learning.

Qualifications

  • A degree (2.1) or above in an Engineering or Computing discipline.
  • A PhD or MSc level qualification in a related area would be highly desirable.

Communication Requirements

Eligible candidates must be able to demonstrate fluency in both verbal and written English and be comfortable liaising with and presenting information to 3 rd party customers.
