We are currently seeking to fill the following role at HMP Channings Wood:

The main focus of the Administration Assistant is to provide high quality, consistent and essential administrative support for the Substance Misuse Service team.  

Key tasks will include:

  • Using the service database to input and report on data, statistics and other relevant  information;
  • Preparing and maintaining paperwork related to the various services provided for service users;
  • Organising team meetings,  maintaining diaries, logs and other administrative duties to support the  smooth running of the team
  • Communicating effectively with other teams and colleagues within the Prison and relevant community links.

The role of Administration Assistant will suit someone with previous team administrative experience and who can thrive in a busy environment where they can organise their own workload and priorities to ensure that all work tasks are completed to a high standard on a consistent basis.

To be successful in the this role, you will need to be an excellent communicator,   able to build effective working relationships with a range of people,  have excellent all round administration, typing and IT skills,  (including being highly proficient at using Microsoft Office ie: Word, Excel, Outlook, databases and data entry).

In addition, you will have a good general standard of education, and this may be enhanced with an additional office, administration or customer service qualification to demonstrate your interest in and commitment to this type of work. You will also be keen to continue to develop your administration skills and experience through our ongoing internal training programme as well as demonstrating a high level of integrity and enthusiasm for working within the structured environment of a prison.

Whilst previous experience in a similar substance misuse and/or custodial environment is not essential, it would be an advantage.  More important is a genuine interest in substance misuse services and a positive recovery focused attitude.
