Science Graduate Teaching Assistant - Solihull Secondary School - October Start 2018
Are you a graduate in one of the three main branches of science, with either a first or upper second class honours degree from a leading U.K university?
Have your experiences of working with children fuelled your desire to become a future teacher of science?
Are you able to put your specialist knowledge of science to good effect by increasing attainment in secondary school pupils?

My client school, located close to Solihull and Birmingham, has approached Edustaff for the recruitment of several Graduate Learning Mentors/Teaching Assistants for their core subjects. Included in this is the need for two high calibre science graduates, ideally with excellent degrees, from the country's best universities, in physics, chemistry or biology.
The school is a large modern secondary with specialisms in science and technology. The school caters for pupils between the ages of 11 and 19 with over 250 pupils in the Ofsted rated 'Good' Sixth Form College.
The school has a relatively new senior leadership team that are continually looking at ways to improve pupils experience during their time there as well as improving GCSE results. To help improve students' attainment the school successfully utilise science graduates to great effect.
As a Science Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the lead teacher in supporting pupils in physics, biology and chemistry. Where you work, and spend your time in school will be largely dictated by your past experiences and degree subject. This is a varied role but daily you could find yourself working with splinter groups from the main class, supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis as well as supporting the class teacher with experiments. Each teacher utilises their Graduate Subject Mentors in different ways so candidates must be flexible, adaptable and hard working to get the most out of this experience.
This is an ideal opportunity for science graduates that are looking to go on to train as teachers. This classroom based experience is the perfect platform in providing candidates with many of the necessary skills that are needed for a career in teaching
