Analyst (The Carbon Trust)

Analyst Location: Based in Cardiff, with travel across Wales and the UK; possibly some international travel (infrequent) Hours: Full time Contract: 12 month fixed term We are looking for a passionate and motivated individual with strong analytical and problem solving skills to join our Cardiff office. The successful candidate will work on programmes and projects for our clients in Wales and beyond, to deliver high quality, high impact advice. A key element of this role will be to support our team in Wales in developing large energy efficiency and renewable energy projects across the public sector estate, in support of Welsh Government's ambitions on decarbonisation. The Carbon Trust provides cutting edge advice to governments and businesses around the world to support the global transition to a low carbon economy. We work closely with decision makers and implementers in key institutions in the UK and across multiple emerging and developing countries on low-carbon finance, programmes, policy and technology. The Analyst roles will include the following responsibilities: • Supporting the Carbon Trust team in Wales in developing large energy efficiency and renewable energy projects across the Welsh public sector estate, including supporting estate wide energy efficiency assessments and renewable energy feasibility studies. The role will also involve supporting the Carbon Trust's work on energy efficiency and fuel poverty alleviation in the domestic sector, and the Carbon Trust's interest free loan's scheme for Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Wales. • Conducting primary and secondary data collection (e.g. through interviews, surveys and desk-based research). • Developing and applying frameworks for analysis and problem-solving. • Executing tasks on projects, such as energy consumption analysis, data modelling and report writing. • Communicating findings orally and in writing (e.g. writing reports or producing PowerPoint slides). • Supporting and delivering on site client support, telephone advice and workshop sessions to customers on technical and change management topics. • Supporting the management and reporting for large government programmes. • Contributing to business development and institution-building efforts where required (e.g. knowledge development, marketing and sales). We are looking for: • Excellent quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills as well as commercial common sense. • Strong oral and written communication skills. • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain productive relationships and influence decision-making. • Ability to work effectively with colleagues in a team environment. • Ability to think and work independently, taking the initiative and 'ownership' of tasks, having strong organisational, project management and time management skills. • Highly numerate with strong proficiency in MS Office suite of tools. Experienced candidates will in particular be expected to have: o proven ability to use MS Excel for complex problem solving and analysis o experience in using MS PowerPoint and Word for communication and report writing • Experience in database and statistical packages is an advantage. • Degree calibre - qualified in a relevant energy, engineering and/or science discipline. • Experience in energy efficiency and renewable energy, ideally with a consultancy or in a consultant-type role. • Strong existing knowledge of key climate change-related topics, including energy efficiency and renewable energy. • Fluent in English (Welsh speaking will be a benefit). • Full driving license (desirable).
