General Enforcement Officer

Position: General Enforcement Officer
Location: St Albans (Commutable from Hatfield, Watford, Welwyn Garden City and surrounding areas)
Job Type: Full Time, Fixed Term Contract Up to 12 Months
Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: GBP24,463 to GBP27,067 per year + Essential User car allowance

About the role:
They are looking for a General Enforcement Officer to provide cover for an internal secondment for a period of up to 12 months within their busy, dynamic and friendly team. The role will be office based both on and off site.
In this post you will be working in a wide-ranging role dealing with public health complaints, scrap metal dealers, fly tipping and supporting the work of a team of Environmental Health Officers. Although the post is generic in nature it would involve working across all disciplines within the section and training will be provided if necessary.
You will be expected to manage an individual caseload and be able to prioritise daily tasks according to the demands of a service which is both reactive and proactive. Such tasks would include the research and preparation required to write technical/legal reports. You will be expected to undertake and also assess the evidential quality and robustness of legal paperwork relating to either their own enforcement action or a colleagues.
You will attend site visits in a variety of different situations, in order to respond to straightforward enforcement issues and requests for intelligence/monitoring from businesses/public/manager and reporting back. You will also issue warning letters/penalties/and deal with responses to complaints and enquiries in relation to straightforward enforcement issues, and be prepared to act as a witness if necessary in any court case or formal hearing
About you:
Ideally you must have enforcement background and/or experience of investigation work and the ability to deliver a variety of regulatory interventions and solutions through the provision and application of enforcement skills, knowledge and expertise.
A current driving license and a vehicle insured for business use are essential for this role to access areas around the district and attend meetings, as is the ability to be able to carry and transport heavy equipment e.g. sampling box, noise and surveillance equipment (daily basis)
Subject to a vacancy on the rota, you may also have the opportunity to participate in the Out of Hours Noise Service which operates for limited hours on Friday evenings and weekends, for which an additional allowance would be payable. Post is subject to a Basic Disclosure Check.
