Programme Officer - Innovation

Contract: Full time, 35 hours per week, 3-month fixed term position

Salary: GBP28,494 per annum (Band FL)

Location: 30 Euston Square, London

The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) is the largest membership organisation solely for GPs in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1952, it has over 52,000 members who are committed to improving patient care, developing their own skills and promoting general practice as a discipline. General practice is the largest branch of the medical profession. It provides some 1 million consultations for patients in the UK every working day and deals with 86% of the health problems experienced by the UK population.

The role is based within the RCGP Innovation team and will support activity across the UK. The RCGP Innovation projects encompass new approaches devised by frontline staff, new ways of working, new models of care, and solutions that can impact patient care. These solutions are created, developed and implemented to help and support GPs and practice staff overcome issues facing the delivery of general practice and world leading healthcare.

We develop innovative approaches with GPs for GPs - bespoke projects that develop outputs that are usable, useful and impactful for all practices across the UK.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day management and delivery of two flagship Innovation projects within the RCGP Innovation () for a 3-month interim period. This includes supporting the Head of Innovation to initiate and the next phase of the Bright Ideas project () which aims to celebrate and spread grassroots innovation in general practice; the second project is the Innovators Mentorship Programme which will support GPs to develop entrepreneurial skills to address unmet needs in primary care. The post holder will also support the delivery of a number of operational Innovation projects at any one time. This post will support the Head of Innovation.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting project management, which will include initiating the projects and supporting delivery of objectives, ensuring relevant internal and external communications for projects in the programme are conducted in a timely fashion, coordinating >12 mentors and mentees as part of the projects, acting as a public face of the department for innovation projects, collaborating with CIRC colleagues to meet department objectives and leverage synergies and using knowledge of innovation and healthcare in order to carry out the role effectively.

The post holder will additionally be responsible for monitoring the project budget and drafting accurate monthly and quarterly reports for the project. Other key responsibilities include identifying and resolving/escalating risks and issues, setting up internal and external meetings and supporting funding bids.

The key responsibilities for this role include supporting project management systems and processes in line with the plan, supporting workstreams across the programme in line with the programme plan, identifying and resolving/escalating risks and issues in a timely fashion, organising internal and external meetings and events; and contributing to the communication, marketing and promotional plans for the programmes.

You will be educated to degree level (or have equivalent in job experience), have project management skills and function well as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
