Technical Adviser - Marine
Our client, an influential international trade association representing offshore, marine and underwater engineering companies, is seeking a Marine Technical Adviser specialising in Dynamic Positioning (DP) to join the technical team, supporting and implementing their wide-ranging work programme.
Based in London, this is an exceptional opportunity to play a leading part in the formulation of Marine & DP-related guidance within the offshore energy sectors. In addition to the production and dissemination of key learnings within our membership, the position is ideally suited for an individual with a deeply held passion for the subject and the enthusiasm and assuredness to stimulate their membership engagement and participation with the marine work programmes.
The successful candidate will have advanced, current and in-depth knowledge of the technical aspects of DP systems, as utilised on vessels deployed in the offshore energy sectors. Familiarity with the operational aspects of these DP systems will be a distinct advantage.
Responsibilities
Overview:
Provide subject matter expertise and technical support/guidance to their Membership on DP- systems.
Key duties of the DP technical adviser will include:
Provide technical advice at an advanced level required, to their Marine Division Management Committee (MDMC), workgroups and the wider membership;
Coordinate committees and associated workgroups;
Prepare technical briefings on marine issues for the senior management;
Prepare new DP technical guidance documents and Marine & DP Information Notes;
Prepare agendas and minutes for MDMC and Marine & DP workgroups;
Prepare and delivery of technical presentations for regional meetings;
Prepare and delivery of technical programmes for Marine & DP seminars;
Prepare and report on analysis of DP events, including causal factors and remedial actions to ultimately provide valuable feedback to the industry;
Respond to marine technical enquiries received by email and phone;
Liaise with third party organisations - regulators, professional bodies, clients and others - to represent the body and its members;
Review and revise existing Marine & DP technical guidance documents, with a focus upon currency and accuracy of technical information;
Take the lead for the continuous development of the eCMID to ensure it provides value to the industry;
Monitor regulatory and technical developments which may affect their members, briefing and lobbying as appropriate;
Promote the benefits of their membership to relevant organisations;
Travel nationally and internationally, as required, to present at appropriate marine related meetings and events.
Required Qualifications/Experience
An engineer, ideally with STCW Class 1 Chief Engineer III/2 certification or equivalent marine/electrical engineering qualifications and associated industry experience.
Significant experience and knowledge of offshore operations, vessel inspections and DP trials.
Required Skills
Technical knowledge of DP electrical and control systems, as utilised by complex offshore vessels;
Evidence of performing offshore vessel audits and DP trials;
First class communication/presentation skills (written and verbal);
Top level personal skills in representing and promoting the work of the trade association;
Ability to work unsupervised or within a small team.
