JOB DESCRIPTION Role: HR Manager Location: South London Responsible to: Head of Finance and Operations Objective: To deliver the full range of HR systems and processes to the organisation. This is an amazing opportunity to shape a function and then build it whilst mapping your own route in HR. Salary: c. GBP38,000 pa depending upon experience Holiday: 25 days per annum holidays (pro rata for part time) Probationary period: The post is subject to a six month probationary period About the role This is a great opportunity for a HR Manager who enjoys a fast-paced, stand-alone generalist role, with a mix of strategic and operational responsibilities. This is a varied role in which you will take the lead in driving the people agenda ensuring this is a great place to work! Developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives that support the business goals. We are looking to recruit an adaptable, proactive HR professional to help us deliver the HR strategy for the group. Partnering our businesses from day one, you will provide both operational and strategic expertise to our management teams. This is a varied standalone role, so will require you to undertake the full remit of HR activities, from handling HR queries to aligning the function to the wider strategic business objectives. You will be highly approachable, offering pragmatic, business focused solutions and a 'can do' attitude to all your work. You will also be highly credible and able to demonstrate a wide range of generalist HR experience. As the HR manager for User Voice, you will support the senior leadership team and delivery of HR services to approximately 60 staff, with this growing by the end of the year. You will provide HR best practice to support the core people elements of the delivery of the Operational Strategy in line with business objectives, developing and embedding vision and values. Operational HR will also form a core part of your role as the standalone HR Generalist, this includes recruitment, employee relations, learning and development and implementing and setting standards and policies. You will take an active role in developing employee benefits, workforce and succession planning for the organisation. Working Hours are 40 hrs per week. Main Duties and responsibilities User Voice is unique because it is led and delivered by people with personal experience of the problems we are seeking to solve, including crime, addiction, homelessness and mental health issues. As a result our team are in an unrivalled position of being able to engage with those currently caught up in the cycle of crime. Recruiting, supporting and developing our people are therefore key result areas for the post holder. User Voice Operations strategy Work closely with Senior Leadership Team members to design and develop appropriate HR interventions in support of the organisational strategy. Manage and develop the HR function for the organisation Work closely with the Head of Operations to ensure HR interventions compliment wider organisational strategies. HR Systems and Administration To ensure the organisation remains compliant to all legislation in relation to Human Resources To advise Senior Leadership Team and staff on policy and procedure, legislation and best practice, reporting to the Board of Trustees any cases which may warrant exceptions to policy or have legal implications. To provide expert advice and practical support on HR issues such as absence management and performance management including disciplinary, capability, grievance, probationary reviews, flexible working requests, etc. To take overall responsibility for the Staff Handbook, ensuring that User Voice HR policies are up to date, reflect relevant legislation and good practice, and that the handbook is available and well communicated Establish, develop and record the key procedures and policies that underpin the work of the HR function. Work with the Senior Leadership Team to develop an HR operational toolkit Oversee the administration of DBS checks for staff and volunteers Manage the day-to-day administration of the HR function, including staff employment contracts, staff holidays, sick leave etc. Performance Management In partnership with the Senior Leadership team, ensure that User Voice has an effective performance management programme for staff. Work closely with the Head of Operations to ensure consistency with the organisation's operational performance management systems. Work with staff to ensure the performance management system for staff is embedded in the organisation. Learning & Development In partnership with colleagues, implement and manage the organisation's learning and development programme for staff. Work with staff to identify training needs and ensure the learning and development system for staff is embedded in the organisation. Recruitment Research and establish the organisation's recruitment pipelines and develop a strategy Oversee the recruitment and induction of new staff across the organisation by understanding recruitment needs and ensuring that appropriate recruitment plans are established Support managers with the induction of new staff including the design and delivery of induction programmes Volunteering Work with colleagues to advise and assist with the volunteering recruitment process an efficient working of the Volunteering programme within the organisation. General Input into the organisation's strategic goals To keep abreast of new legislation, guidance, best practice and trends, advising the Senior Leadership Team and Trustees on developments and opportunities Provide relevant documentation, evidence and information about HR performance to colleagues, the Senior Leadership Team and Trustees Act as an Ambassador for the organisation when representing it externally Person Specification Experience and skills Substantive experience of delivering an efficient & effective HR service including developing and maintaining administrative systems and procedures Up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of HR practice, concepts and themes including employee relations issues Experience of providing professional HR advice and support to managers and employees Experience of monitoring HR measures of performance and preparing reports for management teams Experience of analysing complex problems, assessing risk and making judgments and decisions for own area of responsibility Ability to think strategically as well as operationally and able to choose appropriate responses to problems Excellent project management skills and demonstrable ability to effectively prioritise workloads, work to deadlines and targets, and take initiative Successful experience of developing HR strategies, structures and operations and recommended changes Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and able to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders and express complex ideas clearly for all to understand Personal attributes Resilient in tough situations and works well under pressure Motivated to work for social change and positive outcomes for our staff and client groups in criminal justice Self-starter who enjoys challenges Strong interpersonal skills with ability to listen, discuss, negotiate and provide advice on difficult, complex or sensitive issues Strong sense of professional boundaries and the importance of confidentiality Education & Qualifications Strong academic background Educated to degree level CIPD qualified/part qualified (or equivalent) or able to demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge within Human Resources Previous experience of working with ex-offenders is desirable but not essential Previous experience of working within the Charity/ Social Justice sector is desirable but not essential FURTHER INFORMATION Equality and diversity User Voice welcomes applications from ex-offenders and from all sections of the community regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age or disability.
