Head of Estates Engineering

The Estates, Facilities and Capital Development Directorate (EFCD) is a newly created and dynamic team, and is part of the Professional Services Group under the Chief Operating Officer. Under the Director of EFCD Team are four Assistant Directors, Estates Management, Capital Development Team, Property and Space, and Facilities. Estates Management consists of Operations, Engineering and Environmental Sustainability. We are all working together, with our partners, to create a high quality, smart, sustainable and secure campus to give the best working and learning environment for our staff and students. Reporting to the Assistant Director (Estates), using your professional expertise and meticulous planning skills, you will lead and manage the Estates Engineering Team both strategically and operationally across the University's building portfolio. You will ensure that engineering assets, equipment and associated systems within the estate are maintained to a high and compliant standard and organise regular audits providing assurance to the Senior Leadership and University Health and Safety Committee. In your role, you will develop an Estates Engineering Strategy with objectives and targets, to ensure (SFARP) the safe, compliant, sustainable and future-focused management of our University buildings. As part of this strategy, you will be responsible for forward preparation of resource budgets to support the capital programme, including support for life cycle costs. A lot of the work will focus on strong leadership to your team around the delivery and management of maintenance contracts in a cost effective manner and make the most efficient use of finance and resources. Working with the Head of Estates Operations, projects and asset management information, you will make informed decisions concerning the prioritisation of backlog maintenance investment and asset life cycle replacement. If you have a comment to make about the overall quality of this advert, or its categorisation then please send us your feedback You will have excellent, proven leadership skills, with experience of strategic planning, organising and programming engineering maintenance activities across a complex estate or property portfolio, paying regard to key performance efficiency and effectiveness. You will have proven experience in critical aspects of engineering, such as HVAC, water systems, gas and pressure systems, BMS, electrical maintenance and have a good grounding in health and safety. They will have proven ability to lead a strategic approach to whole life cycle investment, control and backlog maintenance activities. You be able to demonstrate effective financial planning and management reporting. A strategic thinker, you will be adept at communicating with a diverse set of stakeholders with experience of prioritising complex and often conflicting demands ensuring appropriate health and safety management approaches are deployed and external service suppliers are effectively controlled. Leading by example, your ambition, experience and determination will be infectious and a key characteristic to have an integrated, skilled and effective team held in high regard by its stakeholders.
