PANEL TECHNICIAN

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

a) To ensure the repair of motor vehicles of all types is carried out to motor manufacturer industry standards or repair methods.
b) To carry out such work in an efficient, safe and economical manner, ensuring the integral quality of the vehicle and its safety is maintained.
c) To employ such knowledge and skills as may be required to restore vehicles to an industry recognised acceptable standard.
d) To ensure that non-productive time is kept to a minimum.

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

To have a minimum of 5 years experience in the Body repair of motor vehicles.

a) Motor manufacturer's qualifications and experience.
b) To undertake training courses as required.
c) Driving licence.
d) Current AOM009 welding certificate or BS equivalent.
e) Training in mig braze, spot welding, rivet and bonding, high strength and Boron steel awareness.
f) Light MET qualification linked to ATA.
g) Bonding certification.


MAIN JOB FUNCTIONS

a) To observe, recognise and report on vehicle structure and paintwork.
b) To ensure that vehicles comply with safety standards when returned to customers, or that faults have been reported and noted on the job card.
c) Removal and safe storage of vehicle components, fluids and gases as directed by work order.
d) Removal and safe disposal of vehicle components and fluids as directed by work order.
e) Quality control of all repairs, with final stage sign off.
f) To report all faults, defects noticed whilst working on vehicles not apparent before dismantling.
g) To take care of equipment, special tools, personal tools and report any faulty equipment to your line manager.
h) To actively make sure the repair method is in the job pack and is fully read, understood (e-scribe, manufacturer or other source) and displayed with the vehicle at all times.
i) It is also your duty to sign off the QC section of the Repair Inspection sheet at your and other operatives relevant repair stage.
j) To ensure seat covers & foot mats are in place on all vehicles being worked on and soft top vehicles are protected.
k) Panel alignment and adjacent components.
l) Filler repairs & finished correctly in P180 and pinholes are checked.
m) Underseal, weld through primers, anti corrosion measures are complete before next stage.
n) Strip & refit where necessary including adjustment and panel alignment.
o) Report any defects or damage linked to associated job but not down for repair.
