Duties and responsibilities

Direct Ferries is seeking a Senior Software Developer to help with a major re-architecture and re-platform initiative to move from VB.NET to C#. Its aim is to be completely cloud native, deploy seamlessly and able to scale automatically to meet peak demands.

The post holder will:

  • help solve tech challenges using the latest cloud technologies available work on a critical part of the Direct Ferries platform, which handles thousands of bookings a day;
  • work closely with the business to develop features that allow it to hit growth targets and continually improve the product; and
  • work in a multi-disciplinary team with other back-end and front-end engineers, SDETs, DevOps, product managers, UX and designers; and
  • use progressive practices like automated deployments and continuous delivery to release every day, multiple times a day, and use cutting-edge technology to create products that will make booking travel simple.

Skills, qualifications and experience

The successful candidate must:

  • have a degree in Computer Science or similar;       
  •  have at least four years relevant experience undertaking C# .NET development;

·       have at least one year relevant experience undertaking T-SQL development;

 

·       have a deep understanding of OO & SOLID principles

 

·       have a proven track record of building reliable, high performing, scalable systems

 

·       have developed code that runs within a cloud environment (preferably AWS);

 

·       have an appreciation of the open-source ecosystem;

 

·       understand and know how to apply agile principles, practices and patterns;

 

·       have excellent communication skills and ability to articulate complex and technical concepts to non-technical audiences;

 

·       understand and apply good engineering practices in your work;

 

·       be an excellent communicator with a continuous improvement mind-set;

 

  •        be a pragmatic, innovative and self-motivated problem solver;
  •        have a natural optimism and believe that awesome technology can change the world;
  •        beready to write clean code with good automated testing standards; and
  •        enjoy working within an agile context.

It is desirable for candidates to also:

  • have relevant travel industry experience;
  • have experience of the Atlassian product range (JIRA, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Confluence);
  • have used best-of-breed techniques and architectures (e.g. DDD/Event Driven Architecture, TDD/BDD, REST, SOA/micro-services, CQRS);
  • have some VB .NET experience; and
  • have previous experience in consuming and communicating with third party APIs.
