Your new company
As the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades & support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit a Maintenance Handyperson for Eastwood Park.

Your new role
As part of the Works Department you will be responsible for both reactive repairs and planned and preventative maintenance. Currently the Prison has several refurbishment and general day-to-day maintenance projects underway. As such the prison require general Handyperson who can complete general tasks such as assisting other trades, putting up signage, general basic painting and carpentry duties, using drills and hand tools and fire alarm/ emergency lighting checks.

What you'll need to succeed
Carpentry qualifications such as NVQ / City & Guilds is desirable but not essential.

Previous experience in a prison/ public sector is not required for this role. The nature of the role requires candidates to be security conscious and able to challenge potential compromises and risks, you will also need to be reliable and consistent, level headed and have exceptional interpersonal skills. Full training on working within a prison is provided by the establishment/ department.

Security Clearance required:
All applicants will be subject to the HM Prison Service Security Clearance procedure which can take up to 4 weeks, this can include a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. You must hold a Valid Passport or Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence in your current address. All applicants must be able to provide details of 2 satisfactory references, at least one from an ex-employer.

What you'll get in return
GBP10.98 per hour inclusive of holiday, higher rates if required to do on call hours. Opportunity to go permanent.
