Dog Trainer

Our client is looking for a dog trainer to work with their assistance dogs and their partners!

Our client helps adults who have a physical disability or condition that affects their daily life and limits their independence by training their assistance dogs to support them. Their assistance dogs are trained to meet the needs of individuals with even the most complex physical disabilities. With almost 400 disabled people now living with a fully trained canine partner in the UK their reach continues to increase.

To help them create these amazing partnerships, they need amazing people. They have a fantastic new opportunity for an Aftercare Instructor to join their aftercare team. You'll be working directly with our clients Partners who have been partnered with a dog, supporting them with the on-going training of their dog. Using positive training methods, you will give advice on behavioural and training issues.

Location: Osgathorpe, Leicestershire
Contract type: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: GBP19,576 to 24,470 (depending on experience)

In this extremely rewarding role, you will be part of our clients busy Aftercare team, providing training and support to their partners in their home once they have been matched with their Canine Partner. They offer ongoing care and guidance through regular aftercare visits and telephone support, which allows them to ensure the success of the partnerships and well-being of all their dogs throughout their entire working lives until their well-deserved retirement. You will carry out an agreed scheduled of visits, working with their partners and dogs, giving advice and feedback on behavioural issues. You'll also compile reports of these visits. You will be travelling throughout the region visiting partners so some overnight stays may be required.

About You:

Ideally you will have experience of training dogs using positive reward based methods and will have empathy for a wide range of people, including those with a disability.

You will have in-depth knowledge of dog training behaviour, strong communication and interpersonal skills and effective record keeping, ICT and report writing skills

It is also essential that you have a commitment to excellence and an ability to demonstrate a passion for your work. Ideally you will have an understanding of human medical conditions as they relate to Canine Partnerships and experience of providing training to others, along with a positive attitude, flexibility and initiative.
