Vacancy on The Independent Panel on Members’ Allowances

Hertfordshire County Council currently has a vacancy on its Independent Panel, which recommends to the Council the levels of allowances that should be paid to members of the Council and Committees.

The Panel comprises 5 persons, all unconnected to the Council, and their role involves making recommendations, amongst other things, on:

• The amounts of Basic and Travelling/ Subsistence allowance which should be paid to each member

• The roles and responsibilities for which Special Responsibility Allowances should be paid

• The amounts which should be paid to Co-opted (non-Councillor) members of Committees

There are no formal qualifications to be a member of the Panel, but candidates must be over 18 and either live or work in Hertfordshire. Knowledge of local government would be useful, but is not essential. Membership of the Panel involves approximately 3 or 4 days work per year. Existing or past County or District Councillors, and current County or District Council employees are not eligible to apply, nor are applicants affiliated to any political party.

An allowance of £500 p.a. will be paid, along with travelling costs

Deadline for receipt of applications is 24 August 2018.
