The Head of Welcoming and Community Building is an exciting, newly created role which will have direct management responsibility for a newly created team of 15 staff, consisting of the existing and successful Welcomer team and Community Building team. You will lead this area of the Trust's work, supporting and managing the team, who work directly to catalyse both the creation of opportunities for disabled people and the building of community across the county. The work draws on asset-based and strength-based approaches, operating, outside of conventional service delivery. Key responsibilities Lead, manage and support the new Welcoming and Community Building team Develop the role of the team to catalyse change for individuals and communities Devise and oversee the implementation of a training and development plan for the whole team Ensure that all team members work within clear and effective safeguarding practice Report on the team's activities and influence Contribute to strategic planning as a member of the Heads team Experience and skills required A relevant degree, or equivalent qualification or accredited training is essential A thorough understanding of Social Care, both policy and practice Extensive experience of working with vulnerable people in one or more of the community development, social care or disability sectors. Experience of supporting teams engaged in working with vulnerable people Experience managing diverse teams and supporting programs of change Considerable knowledge about and understanding of safeguarding An understanding, and ideally direct experience, of strength based practice and strength based approaches. Excellent communication and organisational skills; confidence in reporting to committees Strong IT skills (demonstrable proficiency in using MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Benefits Work within a team and organisation that's committed to equality and diversity Highly competitive pension contribution rates Strong commitment to employee wellbeing 28 days holiday plus bank holidays Contract details Permanent contract. The Trust will consider options to work with all applicants who are successfully appointed to accommodate those who are unable to drive due to a disability Although based in our offices in Barnwood and Ullenwood for a few months, this role will move to Central Cheltenham in February 2019.
