Mechanical Design Engineer to be based at R&D centre of global business which operates at the cutting-edge of laboratory equipment and for the cell culture/life science sectors. Your appointment will provide additional impetus on exciting next generation product development activities.
Key responsibilities include: • Assist and provide support in the new product development process, from initial concept feasibility evaluations, alpha and beta prototype unit build, test and performance verification, production certification and release. Prototype build and development testing to support the company's extensive New Product Development Program will be a significant part of this new role. • Provide support to the design and development team, using 3D, 2D design tools, 3D modelling of new products to generate sheet metal drawings, component volume model and tubing drawings, both on new product development and current product sustaining.
Key tasks include:
• Generate detailed 3D models using SolidWorks and be able to produce accurate technical drawing for parts to be used by the manufacturing team, or for parts to be produced externally. • Use the ERP System (SAP) to update bills of materials and to assign part numbers for new components and drawings and follow Engineering change procedures. • Supply the production team with the relevant technical information when requested: shopfloor build/test documentation updates. • Work closely with the Engineering design coordinator to maintain an up to date document register and database, ensuring the correct drawing and versioning numbers are referenced in schedules and any other locations. • Assist the Quality Manager with respect to any production queries: supplying relevant drawings and documentation.
The Mechanical Design Engineer should have a Degree or equivalent in a Mechanical Engineering discipline and will ideally be experienced in Solid Works and have a strong knowledge and experience of 3D solid modelling. Experience of working with a ERP/MRP system for part master and parts list generation and maintenance would be advantageous but is not essential. You must have experience of working in a product design environment within a manufacturing company and have experience of design work on new electromechanical products. You should have the ability to perform tolerance calculations and be capable of using brief FEM CAD analysis.
Additionally you should have a high level of technical knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to practical problems. Good oral communication skills essential and you should be a well organised team player.
