Responsible for implementing and championing exceptional Product Management across Elsevier's outsourced production processes, the Apollo Product Manager will develop a coherent portfolio of products and services in support of our strategic direction. You must possess the right mix of future thinking, communication skills, be capable of dealing with detail and have the ability to influence stakeholders through your enthusiasm, passion and drive.

You will bring clarity of purpose, able to set direction and possess sufficient resilience to overcome obstacles, in the management and implementation of product features built from existing roadmaps; based on your experience and thought leadership; generated by insights from contact with your key stakeholders; or ideas developed in collaboration with your nimble team. You must therefore have the drive to make your vision into a reality, and be able to lead your team through execution, measurement, and ongoing product elaboration within the context of the overall product strategy.

You must therefore be equally comfortable interacting with Software Engineering in defining product release requirements and in the development of new features; engaging with Senior Management in advocating new innovation and ideas; to working with stakeholders in supporting the generation of a business case for new Services. You will need to be an agile practitioner, able to collaborate effectively, direct and motivate delivery teams, enthusing all with the vision and benefits your product portfolio offers.

  • Previous experience of providing Product management, leadership and direction to geographically distributed teams and offshore development partners
  • Sound understanding of publishing industry, production workflows, tools, systems currently used in the industry
  • Strong experience of Publishing production and have advanced working knowledge of pre-flighting, graphics handling, typesetting, page construction and conversions
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the confidence to deliver coherent and succinct presentations to decision makers
  • Good understanding of the Software Engineering process and hands on experience of SDLC with participation in complete engineering project
  • Experience working with technologies such as XML, HTML/HTML5, ePUB, Apps, Mobile platform
  • Develop functional specifications (Use Cases) and in preparation of technical documentation for application development
  • Knowledge of content management, workflow management and hands on experience in Content Workflow systems
  • Knowledge of content engineering & semantic enrichment process and technologies would be advantageous.
  • Ability to do independent research on new tools and propose unique and new ways of building leaner workflows
  • Exposure to Agile Project Management/ Agile development
  • Extensive experience with and knowledge of electronic publishing, infrastructure development and complex IT projects
  • Broad knowledge of Operations, with a strong focus on processes, tools, suppliers and systems
  • Good analytical skills and ability for conceptual & strategic thinking
  • Strong team player and facilitator who can build consensus across broad and varied stakeholders
  • Ability to anticipate and manage potential points of conflict, balancing the interests of different groups against strategic objectives
  • Self-motivated and able to work unsupervised, accepting responsibility for own actions
  • Fluent in English with outstanding written and oral communication skills.
