The Company
Our client is the UK market leader in blended feed fats, supplying the highest quality products to the animal feed sector . We currently have an opportunity for a Site Controller to work within a Shipping team at their depot in Portbury, Bristol.

Role Purpose
To manage and be responsible for the day to day operations, ensuring that all activities are conducted in a safe, efficient and profitable manner. Such responsibilities include, but are not necessarily restricted to, the day to day management of the terminal; the operational safety and efficiency of the terminal, the control and direction of terminal manpower; the control and management of all waste materials emanating from the terminal; the compliance with and observation of, all safety and environmental legislation that from time to time effects the terminal; the liaison with customers ships agents, to ensure timely discharge of vessels and onward dispatch of products.

Nature + Scope
The company handles a wide variety of bulk liquids, with receipts into and dispatch from storage tankage, by both sea and land based transport. This requires a knowledge of bulk liquids and their particular storage and handing requirements.
The scope of the Site Controllers position is to ensure that the terminal is run in the most efficient, safe and profitable manner and that best operational practice is adhered to at all times.
Further, the Site Controller will be expected to participate in commercial matters relating to the business of the terminal, such as customer care, development, and purchasing. The Site Controller deputises for the Port Manager and should be competent to field agency and audit visits, act as site incident controller and DPFSO.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities
The Leadership of terminal manpower by providing an operational lead, demonstrating brand values and setting culture.
Clear communication with other terminals providing team support where needed.
Establish goals and objectives for self and team, and implement accordingly to help support/improve job performance (experience, ability and competence)
Develop and monitor performance standards
Implement, monitor and review training plans
Ensure that the appropriate systems and processes are in place to measure and manage staff performance and to coach and develop a high performance workforce.
Address any staff discipline or grievance issues, maintain appropriate records in accordance with company HR procedures.
Lead and deliver planning for the terminal ensuring appropriate resources to deliver expected QHSE/Operational performance.
Set/review and apply benchmark performance across terminal activities utilising company systems
Drive a continuous improvement ethos
Understand budget and cost control
Customer interface and commercial understanding of expected Service Level Agreements/performance targets
Understand and support maintenance teams in managing Asset base
Promote and maintain awareness and compliance of Health + Safety in accordance with best practice and legal requirements
Manage change to meet current business requirements
Promote effective performance management through the appraisal process and regular feedback to terminal teams
Be a proactive part of the wider leadership team and contribute to the overall success of the business
Ensuring that safe, efficient and environmentally acceptable operational working practices are employed at the site, including the observance of and compliance with, of all current and future legislation.
The effective control of all terminal costs.
The adherence to ISO 9002, Health + Safety and Environmental Policy and to ensure these are properly monitored and controlled.
This is a ?hands on? position and the Site Controller will be expected to occasionally cover/support terminal supervisors through periods of absence, or during busy periods, this includes nights and weekends.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
The incumbent will be required to have extensive operational knowledge of sea fed bulk liquid terminals, together with experience in the associated downstream activities such as transport
An understanding compliance with Food/Feed legislation/assurance schemes
Possess strong People Management, Leadership and Communication skills
Hold a NEBOSH Certificate
Good working knowledge of the full Microsoft suite including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
Possess a good standard of education
