Our Client is a world-class, renowned Commodity business with a truly global reach; this newly created role exists within the Oil & Gas Assets division and will support the recent acquisition of 2 major Downstream assets.

As Asset Economist, you will focus on the newly acquired Downstream Assets and you will be responsible for ongoing portfolio modelling of new and existing downstream assets, working closely with Asset Accountants to marry up forecasts with actuals. The successful candidate will have advanced excel and modelling capability (Business plans, integrated P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow modelling etc.), be highly collaborative and a confident communicator with the ability to build strong relationships within the finance group.

The asset economist will be responsible for assisting the Team with the valuation of assets, producing budgets, trackers and business planning models. This will require the asset economist to develop a detailed understanding of the underlying asset being modelled, working closely with an asset manager based in London and developing working relationships with the underlying business in the asset location to identify key drivers and KPI's for the business in order to build a sustainable and integrated financial forecasting model that produces outputs which can be used and relied on for decision making purposes.

This role is aimed at a candidate with a minimum of 2-3 years financial modelling experience and the ideal candidate should have an existing understanding of traditional valuation techniques, and valuation metrics. You will be an expert user of Microsoft Excel and a proficient user of all other Microsoft packages. A high attention to detail is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Budget, forecasting and business planning (focused around excel modelling driven by key KPI's and metrics from the underlying business)

* Carrying out updates to Forecast Models and helping reconcile a forecast with actual results delivered to understand and report on variances

* Other ad-hoc duties as required

* Integral member of the Oil & Gas Assets team

SKILL SETS:

* Proficient user of Microsoft Excel and an expert at excel modelling.

* Thorough understanding of traditional valuation techniques (NPV, IRR, Payback) and associated excel modelling using these techniques.

* Understanding of corporate / company valuation metrics (discounted cash flows, comparable company multiples).

* Ability to present outputs of analysis in easy to understand messages using Microsoft PowerPoint.

* Organised with excellent attention to detail.

* Strong analytical and numerical skills.

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

* High standard of spoken / written English.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

* Relevant degree or equivalent relevant finance qualification is required (for example Chartered Accountant, Economics bachelor, or other corporate finance qualification).

* Minimum of 2 years relevant financial modelling experience is required.

* Previous business planning experience is preferable but not a pre-requisite.

* Previous oil and gas experience (specifically in downstream / refining assets) is preferable but not a pre-requisite
