Principal DevOps Engineer - Oxford

Elsevier's technology infrastructure is rapidly expanding and we're growing our core engineering infrastructure team to meet the additional demand.

The team is responsible for defining the core platforms and technologies that our development teams use to deliver highly available, scalable and reliable systems to our users, primarily hosted in AWS.

What you have

  • A real passion for well-thought-out and straightforward solutions to problems
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and high levels of automation
  • Experienced in at least one programming language
  • Experience with cloud environments (or virtualised / containerised environments)
  • Experience in engineering systems at scale
  • Understanding of how agile development teams work
  • Ready to work in all areas of our technology stack
  • Eagerness to learn, expand your skills, and try new tools

What you will do

  • Work in a small agile team that creates our core infrastructure platforms
  • Collaborate with teammates to produce high quality solutions
  • Work with our architecture team to define our infrastructure technology roadmap
  • Work with our development teams to optimise our deployment pipelines
  • Play a key role in defining our Kubernetes based microservices platform
  • Continually improve the reliability of our systems
  • Contribute to code reviews to keep quality high and technical debt as low as possible
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and perform R&D to ensure we're using the right technologies
  • Mentoring the team, and other teams, in best practices
