Job Advert
Please note that we are particularly interested in candidates who can work in Buckinghamshire or Berkshire, meaning you must reside within 20 crow miles of two of our main stations in those counties. This is not to say that we will not accept applications from people who live in Oxfordshire but there are more opportunities currently in Buckinghamshire and Berkshire so we will be prioritising candidates who can work from those areas.

The role of a police officer is like no other. It can be tough and unpredictable at times but it can also be extremely rewarding and no two days are ever the same. You will work towards making life safer and more secure for those living within your local community.

You will be fully trained to protect the public, provide a reassuring presence in the community, support victims of crime and investigate complex offences using a mixture of cutting-edge technology and time-proven traditional methods.
Eligibility Criteria for Candidates
Amongst other criteria, external candidates must meet the following:
  • Be aged 18 years of age or older.
  • Be either a British Citizen or be residing in the UK free of restrictions.
  • Have a full manual British/EU driving licence.
  • Have two A Levels graded A-E (Pass), or equivalent, or higher. If you work for Thames Valley Police in a paid or voluntary capacity then you do not need to meet this educational criteria.
  • Have obtained a Certificate in Knowledge of Policing (CKP) or be willing to obtain this by a deadline specified by the police force.
  • Live within twenty crow miles of two of our main police stations by provisional offer of appointment (please see attached document for details). Consideration might be given to those living up to 30 crow miles of two of our main police stations with priority given to those who can be posted to work in areas where resources are in most need.

Applicants are reminded that a degree of flexibility is expected in terms of postings, although consideration is given to personal preferences the need of the organisation must be the priority.
What We Offer
  • On successfully completing all aspects of the recruitment process your starting salary will be GBP25,124 (which includes a GBP2,000 South East allowance).
  • Annual leave of 22 days increasing with length of service.
  • Training and development opportunities throughout your career with potential to work in specialist departments or apply for promotion.
  • Access to a range of services and support networks - Police Federation, Police Mutual, Central Sports & Social Club, Thames Valley Police LGBT+ Support Network, Thames Valley Police SAME (Support Association for Minority Ethnic staff), Women's Network and others.

To join Thames Valley Police as a police officer you need to initially register your interest with us. We have recently experienced high volumes of applicants so there may be a delay in sending you the link to apply. Please bear with us at this very busy time.

Important

All posts require a level of Police Vetting as per the National Vetting Code of Practice. The residency requirement is necessary to enable all applicants to be checked in an equitable manner. Thames Valley Police will allow applicants to apply who do not necessarily reach the criteria as long as they have proven UK residency and supporting evidence where necessary. Applications will be considered on a case by case basis.
We serve diverse communities. To enable us to truly reflect the communities we serve, we are keen to recruit people from Black, Asian and other minority backgrounds. You will need a wide range of skills and experiences which will enhance the services we deliver to the public including an understanding of cultural issues. If this is you, we want you to apply to join us.
We will consider applications from flexible workers and look for job share opportunities where possible.
