The Company aims to accelerate the adoption of fusion power generation by combining two emerging technologies - spherical tokamaks and high-temperature superconductors (HTS). The company is developing a series of technology demonstration prototypes, culminating in a pilot plant which will exceed fusion energy breakeven.

The Role:

A Cryogenic and Magnet Systems Technician is required to assist with development of High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnets for prototype Spherical Tokamaks.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical fabrication and installation
  • Coil winding (test coils)
  • Magnet assembly
  • Vacuum system installation
  • Instrumentation of cryogenic test equipment (sensors, wiring, etc)
  • Manufacture of prototype magnet assemblies
  • Crane operation and slinging
  • General engineering support to Scientists and Engineers

The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in fusion science and/or superconducting magnets, and will be someone who wants to understand "how and why" rather than simply follow instructions.

Essential:

  • Apprentice time served
  • Experience working in Research or Development in an Industrial or Scientific environment
  • Experience in mechanical Fitting
  • Experience working from Drawings

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Welding, large scale soldering (inc. hard and soft soldering)
  • Cryogenic systems integration and instrumentation
  • Electrical installation including power and control
  • Forklift license

Desirable Knowledge and Experience:

  • Vacuum Systems
  • Control Systems
  • Wiring Installation
  • 17th Edition wiring regulations
