This full-time position is formed from two distinct roles and the responsibilities are therefore laid out separately below.  There is a requirement to be flexible in amount of time applied to the two areas of responsibility, though it is likely that the Maintenance involvement aspects will require more time.

Assistant to the Domestic Bursar & Maintenance Manager
Hours: Full-time (36.5 hours per week Monday to Friday)

Fitzwilliam College is a dynamic, international community committed to developing the talents of all its students, the support of young academics and the training and professional development of its staff. The College is first and foremost an educational establishment. Assistant to the Domestic Bursar 
The Domestic Bursar is responsible for non-academic day-to-day operations of the College. Reporting to the Bursar, he is responsible for the efficient, effective management and co-ordination of the College’s Catering, Conference, Housekeeping, Gardening, Maintenance and Porters’ departments.  The Assistant to the Domestic Bursar therefore plays a crucial role in the management, co-ordination and organisation of the Domestic Bursar’s office and diary and liaises with Fellows, students, staff and external parties on a daily basis.

Assistant to the Maintenance Manager and Energy Co-ordinator 
The Maintenance department comprises ten permanent staff, covering all the necessary trades, including plumbing, electrics, carpentry and painting and decorating.  However, depending on maintenance and building projects, there are often a large number of contractors on site.  The Assistant to the Maintenance Manager will be responsible for organising the administrative processes and procedures of the Maintenance department and, as such, is an excellent opportunity for an experienced procurement administrator to bring their organisational skills to the fore.  The energy co-ordination role will involve overseeing the consumption and invoice reconciliation for water, gas and electricity for 30 houses and the main college site.  We use powerful software called Systemlink to manage this process.

Required Skills and Experience: 
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills.  Previous experience in working as an assistant to senior managers and overseeing administrative services is essential.  Project and environmental management experience would be an advantage.

Conditions & Benefits of Employment 
This is a full-time post, working 36.5 hours per week Monday to Friday.  There is an unpaid lunch break of half an hour each day.  Flexibility in working hours and between the two sets of responsibilities will be required according to the needs and priorities of the College.  For the right candidate(s), there may be the opportunity to split the role into two part-time posts.  If you would like to be considered for a part-time post, please make this clear on your application. 

The salary will be in the range of £24,417 - £26,033 per annum, depending on relevant experience and qualifications.  The College also offers a discretionary bonus scheme, 33 days’ annual leave including public holidays, enrolment into a contributory Group Personal Pension scheme, free lunch on duty and on-site car parking subject to availability.  The successful applicant will be appointed for an initial probationary period of six months, after which notice of one month on either side may be given.
