Digital Self Service is the leading supplier of self-service kiosks to the UK rail and hotel industries. We design, manufacture, deploy and support thousands of public use TVMs (Ticket Vending Machines)/kiosks/ information points and digital signage across the UK Rail network.

These machines are deployed in various environments and locations that range from friendly (e.g. inside luxury hotels) to hostile (unmanned remote railway stations open to weather and vandalism). The machines return average availability figures that exceed 99% in any given period measured against 24x7 operations.

In addition, Digital Self Service, a highly innovative team, are now delivering a new range of products & concepts as well as developing digital signage solutions for clients in the retail market both in the UK and world wide

The Senior Engineer will be part of the Product Delivery and Assurance team and responsible for ensuring the all new hardware is sufficiently tested in house prior to field trail evaluation to ensure products are fit for purpose and consideration is given in respect of price, compliance, fitness for purpose and ease of implementation.

The short-term objectives of this role will be to continue to improve client satisfaction of Digital Self Service products and services for nominated customers by:

Hardware investigation and fault diagnosis (checking logs, understanding data from field, setting up test environments to mirror live to re-create issue in house
Investigate potential fixes (working with design team and or suppliers)
Procuring prototype parts of hardware updates to test in house
Create test plan and undertaking agreed levels of testing to ensure product is fit for purpose
Ensure test results are documented and fed back to relevant teams
Assisting with the investigation of issues found during testing
Management and monitoring of field trials and writing evaluation report
Assisting with the investigation of issues found during live operation

Responsibilities:

Design and implement hardware test strategies/plans
Provide test effort estimates to understand impact on cost and timescales
Design and implement test procedures, test scripts, test cases in collaboration with other team members
Define test requirements to include failure modes, quality factors and specifications
Perform volumetric testing of new units modifications
Ensure the accurate documentation and communication of test results, issues and evaluation items through a tracking system
Accurate monitoring of field trials
Create accurate build and installation documentation.
Ensuring new product or modification documentation is of the required standard for handover to our Engineering partner.
Set up of TVM/kiosk for EMC and safety testing

Person Specification:

BTEC/HND or other relevant professional qualifications
Full UK driving License
Geographically mobile and willingness to work on client site as and when required
Flexible regarding hours of work

Essential requirements:

An experienced hardware engineer, ideally with a background in rail industry.

2+ years hardware testing background and experience with TVM hardware and components.
Technically proficient with hands-on experience in resolving hardware issues on Digital Self Service products
Good communication skills to work with relevant teams to communicate any defects found
Good written communication skills (report writing)
Dedicated to delivering what has been agreed. Ensuring that results are on time, on budget and to agreed quality standards.
A high level of consistency between communications and actions
Must be a team player whilst being capable of managing their own workload in an efficient and timely manner

Basic knowledge of Microsoft office applications
