The voice of the UK food and drink industry: the largest manufacturing sector in the country, are seeking a Sustainability and Environmental Policy Executive on a Fixed-Term Contract until December 2018.

The Team

The Regulation, Science and Sustainability team provide a timely and expert service to members, on technical and regulatory developments of interest to the UK food and drink industry.  The team covers a wide range of issues including Allergens, Food Contact Materials, Food Law and Labelling, Residues and Contaminants and support a number of serviced Sector Associations on specific category areas of interest.

The Role

To assist the organisation to deliver its environmental policy work programme including undertaking research and project work, liaising with external stakeholders and the preparation of policy papers and reports for the organisation’s Committees, principally the Environmental Regulation and Policy Committee. The role currently places particular emphasis on representing the sector and communicating with members on issues relating to Government policy aimed at reducing plastics waste and increasing the recovery and recycling of all packaging.

To support the team’s work with a particular emphasis on the communication of environmental issues with members through policy committees, in particular the ERP Committee, and, where appropriate, to gather feedback. Alongside this, you will support and/or lead on individual policy areas and projects as directed by the Environment Policy Manager and other members of the Sustainability team with regard to the Environmental Regulation and Policy Committee.

To help with work representing the sector (including at meetings with stakeholders – Government departments, NGOs etc.)  and communicating with members on issues relating to UK Government policy aimed at reducing plastics waste and increasing the recovery and recycling of all packaging.  This will include relevant measures to be set out in the Government’s Resources and Waste Strategy for England along with equivalent policies developed by the other UK administrations. 

Must Have (Essentials):
  • Graduate and/or relevant qualifications/ experience
  • Interest and enthusiasm in environmental policy (in particular that relating to packaging and packaging waste reduction) and wider implications for sustainability
  • Responsible self-starter
  • Ability to be highly adaptable to reflect changing business and Government policy priorities
  • Willingness to learn and take on new challenges
  • Good communicator and a team player
  • Project management experience
  • Database skills would be an advantage
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills
  • Experience of Word, PowerPoint and Excel
